nice photoshop, but if this was real, i'd hate to be driving when it's cold and raining. looks like the vent leads into the back of the seats with the rear fender still stock like that

Of course style is allowed on a car, did I say otherwise? But something as integral to the layout and performance of a car as side vents should not be there strictly for cosmetic purposes. Look around you, when was the last time if ever, you saw a FR layout car with side vents? Imagine how ridiculous a Ferrari 550 Maranello or Dodge Viper would look with side vents. Why does the NSX, 360 Modena, Lotus Elise, Ford GT etc. all have side vents? Because they are functional with their mid-engine layouts. Yes, they look great, but it's because of the functionality of the design that it's there on the car in the first place, not the other way around.

Anyway, that is a clean job of photoshopping the Z, I'll give it that much.
If the vents are quite lengthy, they could conceivable lead back to the rear wheel well, where the airflow could be directed to cool the brakes. See - functional and stylish!

There are still quite a few things on cars that are more style than function - check out the latest craze for heavy wheels on stock vehicles, purely for the sake of vanity. Even Porsche is offering 19" wheels on their cars - heavy and typically more punishing in terms of ride. But they sure look nice... How about non-functional spoilers that so many cars are using today? Even the Viper used a non-functional spoiler on the ACR (?) edition. Face it - it's commonplace to put style over function, even on sports cars.

I guess you've never seen a Supra or a Z06 Corvette. The vents direct air to the brakes for cooling.

On the flip side, I don't think a 350Z's brakes need that big of a scoop to catch the air needed to cool them.
