I'd like to know, if anyone has tried to successfully use OEM parts to put the open headrest seats into an '06+. Is this a plug and play operation, merely removing the seat rails from one and transferring them to the other?

Hello Darcy, I have 2003 seats in my 2006 because I like that style of seat better.

As for the installation, it is a direct swap of the seat rails on the driver's side but you will need to swap over the rails and the recline bracket on the passenger side. There are two bolts that have to be removed and they are located in the side of the back section under the vinyl, I got these out with a combination wrench and some patience. Good luck.
