Default Arm rest storage box

has anyone ever made their armrest into a storage box? im building a custom sub box in place of where our current "glove box" is so i was looking at turning the arm rest into another one. i opened it up and i think its possible to just take a dremel to where the plastic welds are and then building a metal/wood box in that space. now its not very much space but i just need it to hold my registration and pike pass so im not needing much room. i have read that it does get hot right there from the drive train, maybe putting some insulation there will help?

what do you guys think?

That would be one great DIY if you can get that down. I would love a little extra space, plus that might be a great option for guys who install roll cages and a harness bar since they loose the secret compartment.

Havent seen it done, but I think it would be pretty cool. If you end up trying something a DIY would be awesome.

You could make it out of wood too. Or anything really. I just chose metal cuz i have some extra stuff at the house.
