It’s winter, and I think in replacement of actually driving my S I’m spending more time just tinkering with it As such, I just got around to finishing a handmade shift knob for it just for kicks! Maybe doesn’t fit the s2000 interior so well, but I had fun making it
I got a threaded nut adapter from eBay as pictured. I threaded it into a hole just big enough to be threaded in, and fastened it into the knob using wood glue. From there, you can put in a threaded dowel (also pictured) and throw it on a drill chuck to sand it smooth! Currently the knob feels too big. Gonna have to bring it down to more similar to stock knob size.
Reduced the size and made it more spherical. Much better now interesting being so light weight. I can’t say it’s any harder to shift, but I can’t definitely feel more through the knob. More gear movement, more notchiness. Not sure I’ll keep this in but interesting to have it and to have made something fun for the S!

have you considered drilling holes for bronze rods in a pattern, then lathing to match the tips of the rods to the knob face. I would be a cool way to add some weight to the knob.
Mmmm I do like that idea! Unfortunately I dont have a lathe or anything, so that might be a bit tough for me. I think if one drilled out the center/bottom of the knob also and put a cylindrical lead (or less toxic metal) weight in there, that would be beneficial also!

Gotcha, I'm sorry i figured you had made this with a lathe... but yea, a way to weight it with the tools you have
