Default Rear view mirror fell off and won't attach, help!!

Hello s2ki fam,
I've seen a couple of posts similar to mine but couldn't find a solution either forgive me if this a previously solved issue.

Long story short, I get my windows tinted and in the process my rear view mirror is broken off. The tinter orders a washer that fell off from honda to fix it, turns out the bolt to install the washer is stripped. The tinter now orders me a whole new mirror from Honda. Finally thinking the issue is resolved, I head to his shop but he can't install the mirror himself, so he sends me to the nearby Honda dealership where his close friend is the manager.

They tried to install the new mirror but they came to the conclusion that the clip (on the windshield that the mirror slides into) is worn down from age and has too much play. They tried to tighten the mirror a bit but said doing it anymore would risk cracking the windshield. They weren't much help from there and pretty much told me to figure it out myself.

Has anybody experienced this issue before? Any solutions, would tightening the mirror anymore be a fix or would I destroy my windshield? I don't see how the clip could be so disfunctional from age, it seems like a pretty simple part. The car is my daily and this whole situation has been a headache and kept me from enjoying driving ever since the mirror first broke off. Any help is much appreciated! Pictures attached.

Yeah, no, I don't believe for a second that that portion on the windshield is worn down by age and play...It's a solid chunk of metal, and if your mirror was tight before being busted off then there was no play.

Looks like quite a few parts are missing. Is this really a brand new assembly? Here's some pics I stole from another thread:

I wouldn't trust a Honda dealer any more than the kid behind the counter at Autozone, personally. That sprung metal disk should slide into the slot in the block on the windshield like pictured below. Ensure everything is in the correct order and oriented correctly.

The mirrors on this car are kinda junky lol. What happens when they wear is that they vibrate and get looser and yes, wear down that metal part on the windshield. But mine did not wear enough for hat part not to work. What more often happens is the spring metal disk gets warped and keeps coming off that screw. I think someone on here took that screw off and put an oring around it which helped hold it better. But even my new one just barely seems to grab. My first one flew off on an autocross run and luckilly did not slide right out the window!

Thanks, I saw that same thread and believe I have all the correct parts in order, I sent a couple of pics of what I have. I shared the same feeling that there was no way the windshield piece is worn down to such a severe degree. In this case, do I just need to tighten the screw more until the fit is tighter or is that a bad idea? My mirror was snug before it fell off.

Can you post a larger picture of your mirror assembly? Unless I'm missing something it doesn't seem like the metal tab is going through one of the grooves in the washer like the pic above. I think that's what's allowing it to pull away so far from the base.

You're right, I don't see any metal tab through the grooves on my mirror. Here's a couple of larger pics

Turn that round piece so that the tab behind it hooks through it. I am assuming it is just hidden behind the round piece in your pic but that is needed to keep it from pulling apart. Otherwise it will be loose in the mount and likely will pull the screw through that round piece with any force put on it

Ok, I got the tab hooked through but the mirror still doesn't seem to want to latch onto the windshield? Here are some pics of how the assembly looks now, is there something else I'm missing?

Tighten that screw down on top some more. You tighten that one by turning CCW.

I tightened the screw and tried to attach to the windshield but the mirror still sags down and won't actually attach to the windshield properly. Is it as simple as just tightening the other screw now and I'll be good? Or is there something else wrong here? I don't wanna risk cracking the windshield like the Honda tech said, I don't know if he was actually right about that though..
