Default Soft top bars

Just bought my S about 3 weeks ago from a guy in Orlando. It's been quite an uphill battle since I got it. The guy took every shortcut he could to make the car presentable while I looked at it, then we met in the dark...anyhow, stupid move on my part, but I have an S now. It's an 03 Suzuka blue w all the lovely smurf interior that comes along with it. I've spent some time putting the car back to stock. He had replaced the top on it though, which is nice. I have a glass rear window now, but the problem is, the bars are not in the correct spot. Or at least I don't think they are. Any help would be huge.

First, I could use a confirmation by ANY of you out there to let me know I'm not crazy. Shouldn't the back bar in this picture go behind the seam, above the window?

Second, if I'm not crazy, is it possible to get it there now, or did that HAVE to be done at install? I've read the thread on top replacement, but the removal process was "just cut it off", not really a good solution here.

Thanks guys.

Hi,

If installed properly, it should look like the pics in this thread:

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/104...top-installed/

All 2003 models had the glass windows.

here is a good writeup in PDF for a softtop replacement, needless to say it is not an easy task and requires a lot of patience:

That's definitely not installed correctly, and as 516S2K mentioned above, all 02+ models came with glass backs.

Good luck with this, as replacing or restructuring that top will not at all be easy, especially if you intend to preserve/reuse it. If you end up wanting to replace it, I highly recommend looking into "Robins" tops. Much cheaper than OEM and excellent, reputable quality.

Looks like the straps are missing to hold that bar back. I forgot to hook them up when i replaced mine. It should go to the back studs that holt the top in place.

Good luck

I have an '06. I had 2 straps hanging from that bar. I concluded they were not reattached, during top replacement, to the shell that holds the top in the down position. I pulled them back to the shell and determined a spot the would be attached. I reclined the top just a bit, drilled holes and anchored the straps with a screw and washer. It was a 15 minute fix versus several hours and it is not noticeable. The bar is now pulled back near the top of the window when the top is raised.
