I don't know the real purpose, but I use it to store all my gas receipts.

I put my gate access card in there... perfect fit and the door closes too

I always just use it for military ID when Im about to get checked. I always wondered too. Theres gotta be a reason. Maybe a folded map holder?

I place my receipts and random papers in there, sometimes a cell phone also (not in the pocket).
