Austin Statewide Event - Need Your Feedback
As many of you know, several of us Austinites are planning a statewide event in the near future. We'd like to have a full slate of activities, more than just a drive, so you out-of-towners can justify coming to Austin for a fun-filled weekend.
Option A is to build on the Central TX Wildflower and BBQ cruise, and plan some addtl. activities around it (maybe some live music Sat. night along w/ a Malibu GP competition?).
Alternately, we could defer it to the weekend of 3/31-4/1. The agenda would be similar (Sat. drive, Sat. night social acts.), except that Spokes (the local auto-x club) is having an autocross @ Retama Park near SA on 4/1.
Wouldn't it be cool to have a big group of S2000's show up together? Also, it's the safest way to discover our cars' limits, and improve our driving skills - nothing but soft plastic cones to hit! For those who want more info, Spokes' website is http://www.ccsi.com/~vitek/spokes/. I spoke w/ the President of the club about accommodating us, and he was very welcome to such an idea. We'd have to do some advance planning (note that they accept pre-registration, which would greatly help to ensure a smooth day), but they'd be happy to have our participation.
Sondra, Wirejock, & I (plus a few others, I'm sure) are meeting on Friday to solidify plans for this event, so we need to compile your collective preferences ASAP, specifically:
1) If you're interested in attending, which weekend do you prefer?
2) If you'd attend the weekend of 3/31-4/1, would you want to enter the autocross event? (put me down as first on the list)
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I'm cool with either option.
I've never been to an autocross event before, but always kinda wanted to... I think it would be encouraging to show-up to the first one with a bunch of other s2k drivers. I'll try to come Fri. to help out in any way I can.

Hey Guys,
We'd love to have you out at our event on the 1st. I'd like to thank Chris for getting a hold of me well in advance so we can know what to expect. Our first event of the season yielded 170+ entries, which was a bit overwhelming but we still managed 4 runs a piece. We try to go with a minimum of 5 runs and the only way to do that is to plan ahead.
If you can keep in touch with me via email at dan@mroad.com with some more accurate numbers, i'd love to try and make arrangements with our BOD so that we're not overwhelmed at the last minute.
One thing to consider is the size of the heats. We generally separate our heats by class. Rather than have 30+ S2000s all in A Stock, you may want to consider running in a completely separate class on your own for your club so you can compare with each other. I've seen Miata clubs run in an M class just for their own comparisons. It would probably be easier to run an S2K class on it's own so that we can possibly divide your group into separate run groups and not bog one heat and possibly cause delays.
But if you want to run in A Stock, that's fine, too, if you have R compound rubber
Keep me informed!

OK...you knew I was going to weigh in here so here goes:
Have both weekends (BBQ and AutoX) so ppl can pick whatever they want. The cruise would get the most ppl and the AutoX would get the crazies (I include myself in that group of course
). We wouldn't bog down the Spokes guys and the cruise is a no brainer planning-wise (I would think). More options and more excuses for me to get to Austin. (Selfish me!!)
Anyway, my $0.02...
In case you were wondering, I would attend any/all driving events in Austin!!
On a side note: I am really considering how to get my little company to Austin so I don't have to put a 1000 miles on the odo each weekend!!!

C'mon Dallas/Houston participants - only 1 out-of-town reply? We're having a planning session on Friday, and really want your feedback so we can pick a weekend & agenda that works best for everyone...I guess we'll just have to use our ESP to plan the most kickass TX event yet if we don't get any more responses!
Sounds like a lot of fun is being planned in Austin!
I'll see you all on Friday. I am going to be travelling most of March. But, hope to be home on weekends, so I think either weekend would work for me. Not sure I have the b@lls (I mean experience) for the autocross, but would love to see a bunch of stooks going at it! Talk with you all on Friday
All the out of towner's don't know what you're miss'n!
