I will be in Denver, CO area for the dates May 24th to May 29th.

Was anyone interested in doing a few runs at Estes Park and maybe some lunch?

I am driving out there with my fiance so she can show me some of the "experiences" she had going through Grad school out there. <---I'm always getting an earful of "In Denver,...." which always reminds me of the girl from American Pie, "And one time in band camp..."

Since the weekend is for the two of us, she has allocated only minimal time for me to meet others and do some driving. I will only have about half of a day to do driving (I want to see what Estes park is really about, since everyone is ranting and raving about it) and then do some eating (or vice versa).

I am already meeting up with mdigrappa, and I think kwando was interested as well.

Any takers?

You should take a drive up to the top of Mt. Evans. I did it a few years back in my delSol. Very cool drive. Spectacular views. Highest Paved Roadway in the World I belive. 14,000+ ft.

Ok,

I was just informed by the fiance that Estes park is about two hours away from Wash Park...which is ok. However, if we do go to Estes Park, she wants to have a picnic afterwards and then go horseback riding. I'm game for whatever (even though I've never gotten on the back of another animal before) and encourage others to join in. I've also gotten suggestions as responses to drive to Mt. Saint Evans.

I am up for any interesting drive that people in CO are willing to do and meet up for. If time is an issue, we can start our drive very early in the AM....in fact, I would prefer it seeing that we'd probably not see as much traffic.

So here it is, Saturday, May 26th, 2001: About 8AM or 9AM meeting time, is that good?

So far we have mdigrappa, kwando, dannylo, and myself.

Any other takers?

I will pm you all my mobile number, and maybe I can have one of you co-ordinate the meeting place, and the drive to Estes Park.

I'm in-between trips and home for a few days... Off again on Saturday A.M. (Motorcycle trip to 4-corners, Bryce NP, Zion NP, Grand Canyon NP, Canyon de Chelley, etc) but would be able to meet up Thursday or Friday afternoon for lunch and/or S2000 BS'ing... I'm in Boulder.

Some thoughts for your routes:

"Peak-to-Peak" highway is a fabulous driving route. I'd suggest:
  • Head to Golden on I-70 or 6
  • North out of Golden on 93
  • West on CR70 through golden gate Canyon (Fabulous curves)
  • North on 119 (peak-to-peak highway) to Nederland, then 119 to Boulder (far more interesting in my completely biased opinion then Estes Park...) -or- continue on a longer drive with:
  • North on 72
  • West on 7 into Estes Park
  • West on 34 into Lower Rocky Mountain NP
  • Further up on 34 to the top if the road is open.

Great curves... little traffic until Estes Park. Perfect S2000 territory. The road to the top of RMNP is usually closed until Memorial Day, but maybe will be open a few days earlier if plowing goes well!
