We're going to have our first get together on Saturday, April 7, starting at 10:30 AM.
Although we're calling this the Baltimore/DC meet, we welcome our brothers and sisters from PA, VA, and all other points. We'll meet in the parking lot of my office, at 6115 Falls Road, just north of Mount Washington (I'll email maps to people who sign up). Coffee and donuts will be on hand for those who haven't had breakfast and we'll spend some time checking out each others' cars and swapping stories and perhaps do some installation demos on accessories, if there's interest. We'll then head north up Falls Road for some spirited driving through some lovely horse country, including a spin by Cal Ripken's spread. We'll stop for lunch at a yet-to-be determined good, but moderately priced restaurant, then spend another hour or so on some great backroads off the York Road corridor north of Hunt Valley, stopping for group photos at some scenic spots along the way. We'll be finished by 3PM at the latest. Sign up by posting emailing me at hesel@artsci.com and posting here as well, so everyone can see who's coming. This should be a great warm-up for Asheville -- bring your walkie-talkies! |
Can't make this one (pesky honeymoon) but I'm definitly in for the club.
|
My social calendar being what it is....I'm available.
It'll be nice to head back up to my old hunting grounds. |
I'll be there.....
|
I'm in.
|
I'll try and make it up there too
|
I'm definetely going, but won't have my car by that time. I hope nobody minds if I show up in a 99 civic Si.
BTW, Rick, I grew up in the Parkton/Hereford area and now live in Towson. I know some great roads up that way as I'm sure you do. See you there! Steve |
Count me in too.
|
Count me in.
|
We've got nine already, a great start. If this keeps up we may have to get a police escort :).
James Mullins will try to get down from West Point to join us -- he and I have already explored some of Marylands' back roads in tandem. Who wants to volunteer to help map out a course? |
gonna try and make it down only 1.5 hour ride for me.
|
We'd love to see you, Charlie!
|
What can I say you said the magic word free doughnuts :D
|
Some of us are also going to the FATT at Summit Point on June 22. See this thread http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=7332

I'm in. My wife and I had a blast at the New Hope meet last summer.

We're now up to ten. At this rate we'll have more than Asheville! :)

I'll try to juggle some things around and meet up with all of you. It'll be my first!

On that note, I've already made my hotel reservations for the World Championship Barbacue Cooking Contest during the Memphis in May festival, so any y'all who mightn' want to join me. . . .come on down and set a spell!!! |
Confirmed this morning. I'm in!

We're up to twelve now. There are some great country inns along our route where we'll probably stop for lunch. Our route will be hilly and twisty in many parts and we may even cross a few covered bridges. Let's pray for top-down weather. I'm really up for this now that the temps are finally rising.
We have one console cover installation to do (as a demo for those who don't have one) before we head out in the morning. With ReedZ along, that'll take about 60 seconds (he's the wizard of console cover installs). |
Hey, I'll probably make the trip up from Richmond. I grew up in northern Baltimore county and remember some of the great drives I've enjoyed there.
|
DaveZ.
Hope you can come -- we'd appreciate your coming all the way from Richmond. |
Hey DaveZ,
Let me know if you want to meet up, maybe we can drive up there together? I'm in Glen Allen |

Rick- I live near Philly but have a summer place near Hanover,PA...and will try to make it from there. If this doesn't work out, hope to catch another activity over the later Spring/Summer.

We're now up to 27 definites and maybes. Will this be the largest gathering of S2000 owners outside of Asheville? I think so!

I'd be very interested in getting directions and any other details you're sending out ... would love to come if I can work it out ... Maybe I'll even be past the breakin period by then ...
dt_dc@email.com Thanks [Edited by nova s2k on 03-26-2001 at 12:58 PM] |
Count me in on this one. I'll be bringing a guest with me.
Gregg > Maybe we can hook up and drive together seeing that you live right down the street from me. I live in Sterling. Drop me a line if you are interested. |
Man, I just found this thread, so I already have plans that weekend.
The NoVA / Balitmore area is a good central location.... We must plan several events this summer! Top down driving. Sorry, I can't make this one. |
Wow! What a turnout so far!
Rick and I will be meeting this weekend to scout a drive along some beautiful Maryland country roads. Weather permitting, it should be quite an excursion. See you all there on the 7th! Steve |
What does everybody think about inviting our Type-R brethren to attend?
... hang on to your keyboards now ... what about Civic Si owners? :) |
I don't object, although I'm concerned about the number of cars. We could have over 30 if everybody shows up!
|

I concur with Dliodoir, no open invitation for other Honda/Acura owners. No offense guys :)
|
I'm driving my civic Si to the meet and will leave it parked there, bumming a ride with one of the current S2000 owners for the actual road excursion.
Since the meet is for interest and enthusiasm for the S2000, I would think that we should keep it that way. If we had many different models of cars there, I forsee us breaking into several groups and ultimately, defeating the purpose of the meet. I don't think it's a bad idea to have a multi-model meet at some point, but it should be planned for and advertised that way beforehand. Just my $.02 Steve |
Since we have thirty drivers who've said they're coming, my guess is that we'll have at least twenty cars, so I think out of practicality we'll have to limit participation in the actual drive/caravan to S2000s. If you want to come in another car, that's fine, but you'll have to park it at our office and hitch a ride in an S2000 (we'll have a number of empty passenger seats). We have lots of parking at our office, so that won't be a problem.
|
Hey Rick, if I have the yellow S2K by then, you can count me in. It's going to be cutting it close though. They said it's coming either the first or second week of April. If not, I'll have to do it another time. I don't want to put any more miles on the red one, need to get every penny I can on the trade in.
|
Hey guyz!
I haven't been actively participating at this website (busy working 2 jobs), but I will try to make this meet since it's local. Will there be any accessories/mods for sale at this meet? Rick? Also, could someone tell me where the starting point is so I can get directions from Germantown, MD. Thanks! Hope to see a swarm of S2000s! Peace |
This meet should be a blast! I'm wondering where you'll fit all of us in that parking lot...LOL.
If by chance we have bad weather, is there a rain date? |
tpham23,
We normally don't keep any inventory, so we won't have things for sale unless people order them ahead of time. But all of our accessories and those from others (MG Racing, RM, Mingster, etc/) are on our cars an will be there for everyone to see. If we have any spares, we'll bring them along. Starting point is my office, 6115 Falls Road, Baltimore. I'll be emailing maps and all the details to everybody over the weekend. velocity, Rain date? It never rains here, does it? :) We forgot! How about Saturday, April 14, a week later, same time, same place? [Edited by Rick Hesel on 03-28-2001 at 07:32 PM] |
tpham23,
We could meet in Germantown/Gaithersburg and drive up together. Interested? I live in Gaithersburg. -Donnie |
I am interested however I will be at VIR running my other car. Can you keep me on the list? I would love to see an autocross event. I have put on many and can get the equipment and cones. Is there interest?
Pete Kauffman |
FYI
There are 2 auto-X events here in the Richmond area: one Saturday (NASA-sponsored charity event) at Cloverleaf Mall and the other on Sunday at Virginia Motorsports Park (VMSC sponsored) in Dinwiddie |
I thought an autocross just for S2000's might be fun if we could get enough attendance. As for including Type Rs, I would encourage it. But then I am biased.

We're driving and checking the route this weekend. Promises to be a pretty drive with some great backroads. Now lets hope for good weather. Thank God we didn't schedule it for this weekend.
|
Man, I'm sorry I'm gonna miss this. Let's try to get on some kind of schedule so I'll be sure not to let my next honeymoon conflict :D
|
With the able assistance of Steve Lannon (wake88), who's expecting delivery of his S2000 next month and knows the roads around here, we did a dry run today of our intended course for next week.
Fantastic! You're going to love driving the course we have set up. It's all two lane roads thjrough beautiful countryside, with most the of roads in very good condition but with a wide variety of challenging driving condtions: twisties, undulations, hairpins, sweeping curves, curves with reverse camber, blind hill crests, etc., all of which will be a good test of both driver and car. We're going to stop along the Prettyboy reservoir and dam for a photo opp and a major part of our course winds through that area. A reminder that we gather at 10:30 AM sharp at my office, 6115 Falls Road, Baltimore, for coffee, bagels, donuts, and some talk, inspections of each other's cars, and quick installations. Each driver will be supplied with a detailed map of the course (in case anyone falls out of the caravan). Steve (my navigator) and I will lead the pack with James Mullins holding up the end (we'll have walkie talkies to communicate with each other so we can keep the group together). We'll have a short debriefing before we head out, between 11:15 and 11:30. Since we have a big group, at least 20 cars most likely and maybe closer to 30, we're not going to go at breakneck speed, although we'd like to maintain a brisk pace so we can enjoy the course to the fullest. We'll stop for lunch at about 1:30 at the Manor Tavern, a good but reasonably priced country inn. We'll be giving a RSA accessory at lunch to the person who's come the furthest for the meet. I can tell you, based on our experience when we visited the restaurant today, that the knockout receptionist there will make the whole trip worthwhile! You may not want to go home :) After lunch you'll have the option of a great drive back to my office for a final cup of coffee before you head home or, if you wish, a short cut to I-83 that will get you on your way home right away. By the way, Steve drove my car for part of the course. He's a great driver and we'll be happy to have him as a fellow S2000 owner. I'll be emailing everyone tomorrow with a map and directions to my office and final details. See you next week! We're going to have a blast. [Edited by Rick Hesel on 04-01-2001 at 08:06 PM] |
Originally posted by Rick Hesel I can tell you, based on our experience when we visited the restaurant today, that the knockout receptionist there will make the whole trip worthwhile! You may not want to go home :) Yes, Rick has been very generous to us all in organizing this event. When we drove the course on Saturday, he had it already plotted out on the map without even having been down the roads before... and what a perfect course! We only had to make one minor change due to bad road conditions. With luck, we will find the same traffic patterns next week as we were seldom stuck behind a slow moving vehicle...errr law abiding driver. :D For any of you coming to the event that have not seen Rick's car, you are in for a real treat! I hope he was able to wipe off all of my drool that I'm sure covered the car after the drive . He has done an excellent job adding the finishing touches to the car where Honda left off. From the details under the hood, to all of his snug fitting leather accessories, Rick has truly added an indescribable value to the S2000. It persuaded me to start a list in my head of what I will want (need :D) when my car comes in. A giant thanks to Rick for all his time and energy he has put into this meet. Hope to see you all there! |
Larry,
Keep that up and you can drive my car any time! :) |
Count me in!
