Default 06+ AP2 Steering wheel into AP1

Anybody have experience with this? The newer steering wheels has a dual stage air bag which has 4 wires vs the single which has 2. Anyway to get this to work?

Oh man, it would be a crazy idea to try and wire something up and take a chance on it going off.

^ i agree, theres no way of knowing if it will work or not. although im pretty sure someone has done it already, almost every ap1->ap2 conversion has been done.

Agree.

The wheel will go in. I wouldn't even dream of trying the airbag.

I'm guessing your old wheel is just raggety and you want a new one. I did this myself.

I like the look of the newer airbags. Could we just wire the second stage of the airbag and bypass the first stage? I mean the older ones are single stage anyways right?

The SRS controller is different and there is a sensor under the front bumper so the systems are different. Looks like a lot of work to do this right. This thing is technically a small bomb pointed at your face. I personally would not mess with it.

Exactly! A small bomb that could go off with the slightest bit of electricity or error.

Well...I figured out how to do it safely without re-wiring the system. It was quite simple actually..all I had to do was remove the dual stage ignitor system and switch it with the single stage. Problem Solved. NO splicing needed. Direct swap..

This is just what I did..so do at your own risk!

Step 1: Remove steering wheel and airbag - Xviper has a great DIY on that here..

Step 2: Remove airbag ignitor

Remove the 4 Bolts on both air bags

Step 3: Swap them over and place the bolts back in..DONE!
