Adding a Resonator to a J's 70RR. Advice, opinoins?
So I recently purchased a J's Racing 70RR stainless steel non-resonated header back, and given my experience with loud cars before, I thought this would be a walk in the park. Boy was I wrong, this is loud. like really really loud. So loud that I went omg VTEC yo through a tunnel, and my ears were literally ringing for an hour after as if I had just been in the front row of every show of the Iron Maiden reunion tour. Not cool man.
So I've put it up for sale, but someone suggested adding a resonator which I thought was an interesting idea, besides the blasphemy of hacking up a brand new 70RR
At any rate, I do love the way the exhaust looks on the car, and I love the header back design, so I'd like to keep it if possible, but I absolutely need to quiet it down (and yes I have the silencer for it, and it sounds truly awful with it on, so that's not an option).
My goals, in order of most to least important:
1) Reduce Volume at every RPM range
2) Reduce drone while cruising
3) Minimize the unavoidable loss in performance
4) Improve tone outside of VTEC
So what are my options? I was looking at the resonated test pipes, which everyone here seems to hate, but maybe in my case its a good idea? The T1R one is nice because you can mount the factory cat shield over it. Other options I've seen are the resonators from Vibrant or Magnaflow, but I'm not sure where to mount it. Stock location? At the header?
HELP MEEEE
Here's a pick for reference. This is the titanium version, which has a muffler twice as long as the SS version I have

The resonated test pipes are rediculously stupid, since they actually perform as bad or worse than a catalytic converter. Might as well just run a cat, right?
If you have a Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonstor installed in the OEM location, that would tone it down a lot, but it will still drone like crazy.

wow that was fast haha. Thank you for your input.
I'm glad you say the Vibrant ultra quiet will tone down volume a lot, that's what I was leaning towards. Is that what your suggestion would be?
I was also looking into a Helmholtz resonator, similiar to the EVS Tuning 70-SSP but I don't know if anyone makes a universal one.
I'd wager with a resonator it would sound pretty much the same as a 70RS w/ a test pipe. How does the volume of that compare to the 70RR?
