Aftermarket Headlights
Hi everyone, my car recently got into an accident and the right front headlight for my AP2 is now cracked. Other than the cracked outer case and one orange reflector piece that snapped, the internals of the headlight are still functional. I have been looking for used oem lights but have had no luck finding any. I wanted to know if i swap the HID components from the oem headlight into an aftermarket one (from ebay), will the aftermarket headlight work as well as the oem? I've heard people say aftermarket headlights fitment is not perfect and may cause the light to fog easier and also they have crappy projectors, but since i'm swapping oem internals, i'm assuming it will be just as bright. If anyone has experience with aftermarket headlights please let me know what i should do. Thanks
Most aftermarket lights have horrible outer shells. I've seen them melt which I'm assuming would be the first thing as oem internals would be hotter and brighter than aftermarket. Most aren't sealed properly either but since you're swapping internals I'm assuming you're sealing properly. Better to just go oem and be done with it. Our headlights are pretty much perfect.
Sounds like hearsay unless you have pictures or thread of said owner with melted headlights. Here is what you were asking for btw.

I had aftermarkets on my old gts and there was a section melting after probably 6 months of using them. This was using them 100% how they came from where I purchased them without altering them in any way. Wernt by any means a cheap set either and they happened to also be a halo set like the one in the link of the thread you just posted. Not saying all are trash but for what you pay for those plus time to swap seal ect may as well just pay for real lights.
Unless you use OEM, you will most likely not have a good quality beam pattern. The fit and fitment of an HID system is critical down to 1-2mm to get good quality output, and aftermarket lights just aren't up to that.
Throw in the fact that the S2000 headlight is know to be one of the best quality headlight beam patterns ever made, and you are only asking for trouble. One of the reasons it's hard to find a used S2k headlight is that they are snapped up by HID freaks for retrofitting into other systems. Our, the Acura TL and a couple Infinity's are considered the absolute best.

I agree with davidc1. The projectors in our S is a signature mark of the car. I've known plenty of people who made modified them or used something else only to come back to OEM. Honda spent good R&D designing the headlamps. I usually don't see anything that looks better.
Aftermarket lights, like stated above have, have low quality projectors. Light quality will drop and you'll notice black/dead spots in the beams of light. I had friends that retrofitted projectors into headlamps of cars without HID's, the s2k, TL and TSX were the most sought after.
