Thumbs up Anyone paint or cover AP1 shifter surround?

Well I have an AP1 and the shifter surround I polished with rubbing alcohol to make it look all nice. Was nice for a while but now the shiny look is chipping and cracking away.
So I'm wondering if anyone has painted it black or something or covered it in leather or suede or anything?
I DO NOT want to paint it like red or any other ricer look. Just don't want to have it look all chipped and all. Love how it looked when just polished but unfortunately it started chipping and just black plastic underneath that.
Any pictures or suggestions of what you've done to it?
I don't want to swap out consoles either as I have done some custom work with the elbow pad and all.

Mine is color matched to my suzuka blue. It and the cluster surround were done by a body shop. It hasnt chipped or anything and it looks nice. Not ricey or anything. Take them to a body shop and have them spray and clear them a nice color whatever you want. Just my opinion.

Yeah I don't want to do it a color or anything just black I guess. I wish it was made out of metal instead of plastic could get it powdercoated or polished or something. Oh well.
How would painting it myself work out? Anyone know? Would the sun make it feel sticky you think? I don't have anything painted like that now but doesn't once heated up from the sun get kinda sticky if done by hand?

Ok cool. I might just go ahead and do it shortly too haha. I have a gloss black shift knob I made so gloss black surround should look good with that I would think.
The surround piece just pops out right? Looks like that from underneath.

Ok cool. Shouldn't be a problem. Got the dremel already so I'll check it out. Thanks.

Yeah would be nice but can't see myself spending $300 for a different center console. Plus I made a custom mount in the armrest for my Iphone so wouldn't want to cut up my AP2 center console since they're so expensive.
Maybe I should just wrap it in some black suede. Should look good especially since I did my armrest in black suede. Would be real easy I'm sure also.
