No conversion necessary. If it comes with the ballasts, then its plug and play. If not, you'll have to modify the bracket a bit b/c the AP1 ballast is slightly larger.

Aftermarket hid kit are able to replace the oem ballast and bulbs?

Will an aftermarket hid kit (bulb + ballast) work with ap2 headlights housing?

Anything else to advise?

If you have the housing already. All you need is ap2 ballast, ignitor, and wiring. Plug and play. If you want to use the ap1 ballast, ignitor, and wiring then on the back area of the headlight needs to be trimmed where the opening of the bulbs are. Since, the ap1 equipment is slightly larger.
