Default AP2 tail light conversion issues

I installed some AP2 tails on my AP1. I used the OEM gaskets and through the heavy rain today, I got a TON of condensation on the inside of my lights. The lights looked to be sealed just fine when I put them in.

The problem, I think, is that water is sneaking past the gaskets. I've heard of some people using silicone sealer to seal the gasket to the body and the light.

Anyone else have a similar issue and can you post the fix? Also, where would I apply the silicone? Just where the gaskets meet the body and where the gaskets meet the lights, I'm assuming.

Thanks for any help

You might just buy new gaskets. The original gasket sometimes loses its sealing ability due to being installed on the original car for a long time, then removed. The gasket is permanently conformed to the shape of the taillight and the car. You can buy cheap gasket material and trace out the original gasket and use that. It should help.

DO NOT USE SILICON!!! It's ghetto and gross to remove and clean up.

Or you can pick you up some closed cell weather resistant neoprene foam for ~$8 and have a ball cutting your own gaskets. I've purchased a sheet of 3/16" and have used it several times now making new gaskets for the S2k and my daily drivers. I've gotten close to 5 sets of gaskets on one 1' sheet.

You can find the 3/16" foam here:

Get a thick or as thin as you like.

Yep, my friend's dad owns a HVAC company, so I was able to pick that stuff up for free. I just resealed the holes and we'll see how it goes with tonight's rain. It's in there nice and snug, so...hopefully, it'll be all good.

Thanks again guys.
