Default ASM 04 Rear Bumper & US Crash Bar - Tow Hook Options?

Hello everybody,

I just recently acquired an ASM rear bumper and would like to know what other options I have for a tow hook. If anything, I don't mind running a tow strap.

Just some other notes:
-I do not plan on running a JDM rear crash bar and I will not remove my crash bar.
-To my understanding, the ASM rear tow hook is discontinued, and only works with the JDM rear crash bar anyways.
-Those normal bolt-on tow straps seem to be at the wrong angle if bolted to the crash bar, which will probably break first and cause bumper damage if used anyways.

I've had some idea of rigging up some 90-degree tow bracket off Amazon or something to bolt onto the crash bar, but I prefer not to even think much about that.

Any other ideas? Thanks guys.

Just got my bumper as well and here are some issues.

1. Theres no way to mount a plate. Japan uses a chassis mount that is incompatible with the US crash bar.
2. US crash bar will need to have the tow hook mount removed, this will need to be drilled/cut off the US crash bar.
3. That leaves no normal tow hook mounting options.

I'm not running a tow hook on my car but am running the JDM crash bar and license plate mount.

I have a hard time believing an amazon angle bracket is going to have enough strength to be 'towable'.

Best option to retain US crash bar with that bumper is to drill a hole on the bumper, where the tow hook would insert to, and make a custom cover for it. Just like OEM.

The hole would be half in the bumper, half in the mesh. Wouldn't look great IMO.

I ran into this issue as well. I also wanted to replace the front crash bar with the Renegade item, but again, doesn't work with ASM front bumper. What I ended up doing is keeping the factory front crash bar and added a SOS tow hook. I swapped to a jdm rear bar with no tow hook.

Update time.

I ended up buying a stainless steel tow hook from Japan and bolted it onto the crash bar. It is mounted by drilling a couple of holes and using the provided hardware. So far I like how it turned out. The paint does chip easily from this, maybe another time I'll repaint it.

And also, I put back my AP1 tail lights, those eBay AP2-style tails are garbage lol.

AP1 tails look great.

Maybe powdercoat rather than paint for the tow hook?

Hi! wondering if you have more pics? I have the same problem of wanting to install a tow hook with the US crashbar + asm rear bumper.

Sorry for the delayed response, but sure thing!

I picked up a Nagisa universal tow hook (Style S3) from RHD Japan:
https://www.rhdjapan.com/nagisa-auto...-style-s3.html

The process was simple really, I didn't take any formal measurements and just eye-balled the fitment lol. Just drillled two holes into the crash bar and used the provided hardware with the tow hook.
I did end up going to home depot to pick up a few more washers just in case. I also used blue loctite just in case.
Also note that I hated seeing the crash bar behind the mesh grille, so I ended up painting the crash bar with some por15.
The finish on the tow hook was very weak actually. You can see the black paint chip off exposing the red finish underneath.
Overall, I'm pretty happy. If I do end up having to need to be towed using this tow hook, then I definitely made some bad life choices lol.

Overall, I'm pretty happy.
