Test Fit of ASM Rear Bumper
Hi all,
I just test fit my ASM rear bumper on the S. It wouldn't fit with the crash foam pads that are between the bumper and crash bar. Took them off and it fits, a bit tight, but it fits. If you look at the ASM car it looks like they have no crash bar underneath. That, or the Japanese spec crash bar is different. But I noticed that if I take off my crash bar (its not welded on, but rather bolted on), it would look exactly how the ASM car looks underneath.
ASM car:

J's Racing car with cut stock bumper. Underneath looks like they just removed the crash bar:

Here are the pics of my car without and with the bumper:

The pictures above are deceptive because the mesh grille is silver. It will be powdercoated black, so the white crash bar will be A LOT, A LOT more visible. What do you guys think? I think it looks pretty bad with the crash bar, but I don't feel comfortable taking it off. Does the car have more rear impact protection in addition to the crash bar? So, do the guys in Japan who run this, basically run w/out a crash bar?
Help!

Paint the bumper black.
Don't take the bumper out, otherwise I'm coming to rear end your car- just to see the incredible explosion!

I don't know, I still don't think it will look that good. Part of the appeal of the grilled bumper is that you can see into the car and see the chassis. Now you'll look in and just see a big black painted bumper. From far away, it'll probably look ok, but close up, dunno.
the reason for vented bumper covers isnt to see into the car and see the chasis, its for airflow, the rear bumper cover is just a big parachute, so aftermarket companies make vented bumper covers so the air doesnt get caught in the bumper it just flows threw and in turn makes your car faster on the track
paint the grill black and paint what ever you can see threw the vents black and it will look fine

o and race teams remove the crash bars on there RACE cars those cars have serious roll cages that protect them in accidents
DO NOT TAKE THE CRASH BAR OFF on you street driven car, if you get rear ended with no crash bar the whole rear end of the car will collapse and cruch you horribley
and the crash bar you keep referring to is the bumper, your asm piece is just a bumper cover, just clarifiy some terms
