Default AVID Billet Rear Diff Mount Install

Tools required:

*Jack/Jack stands
*Socket (extension(s))
*10mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm sockets

*Picture of the mounts

*What they'll be replacing

*Start by safely jacking up the car and supporting the cars weight evenly using 4 jack stands

*Remove the following brace and lower the exhaust (4 14mm bolts; 3 10mm bolts)

*Lower the sway bar (already lowered in the pic) by removing 4 14mm bolts

*Remove the stock mounts (8 14mm bolts; 2 19mm nuts)

*Loosen the 4 17mm bolts holding the rear mounts to the diff (using the access holes)
*Slide the rear mounts out (this will take some maneuvering; mine barely cleared the fuel tank)
*Install the new rear mounts

*Remove the 4 14mm bolts and 2 19mm nuts holding the front mounts to the chassis and diff housing, respectively
*Install the new front mounts

*Re-install the exhaust/brace

I'll report back with my initial impressions; I'm changing the oil tomorrow morning, so the car will remain in the air until then.

Whats the huge benefit to replacing the mounts with after market ones unless they needed to be replaced (ie broken or dry rotted)? Great write up though btw, just was curious to see if there is a huge positive to doing this considering how much the diffs on these car tend to uhh... break a lot lol

Thanks. I'm building a drag car; I want the diff to flex as little as possible. These mounts are compatible with the Full Blown 8.8 diff conversion. Also, the mounts were rather old (82k miles). I'll be using the AVID engine mounts when they're finally released.

Your (possibly unintentional) pun made me smile. I haven't been to the track since I installed the new mounts. I did drive the car on the street the other day; slightly more vibration in the cars interior. Shifts are noticeably smoother. I can't wait to install the AVID engine mounts.

They're lighter; not sure of the exact weight difference, however.
