Default Back from the dyno for the 1st time

Hey guys i recently got an '01 ap1 and just got a berk test pipe so i wanted to get some before and after dyno's. We come to realize that the car was EXTREMELY low on oil and had temp 5 spark plugs, i also went in for a valve adjustment since the valves were real noisy. Anyways i havent uploaded the graphs yet but the 1st run before i did all the work done was 170.2whp and 109.7 tq, looked like vtec didnt even kick in and had a sudden dip from 7000 to 7200. AFR of 15.36

after we did all the maintenance (oil change, new ngk spark plugs, valve adjustment) and installed the test pipe we got it up to 178whp and 114.7 tq, in both charts the power dropped off at about 8150 and a AFR of 14.76. Overall im a bit dissappointed as i was shooting for 200 but i do think i was heatsoaking a bit (it was about 90 degrees today), and i heard the dyno has a tendency to read a little low. The afr in both charts are perfectly flat and the tq line also looks pretty good, my next step is to get a vafc and get it tuned. i dont know how to read the afr that much but isnt 14.76 really lean? and if i remember correctly 00-01's are suppose to run real rich from factory.

Anybody have any suggestions or thoughts as to why its so low? Engine has 70,000 miles. Stock except test pipe.

What type of dyno? I did 193hp and 137tq on a dynojet. I had an AEM knockoff intake and invidia dual exhaust. Not terribly different from your setup and right about the same miles too.

call the shop and ask what their dyno is, mustang or dynojet is likely... when I dynoed i had the OEM cat in, a test pipe will make more power than the exhaust and intake so I was saying our setups should have similar outputs

yeah the "dynomite" printout is a land and sea dyno. there are a few in my area as they have a retailer local. the thing i have noticed about land and sea is that they can vary a lot more than any other dyno i have been on. I was good friends with a shop owner that used one and he told me that he was always messing with its calibrations to try to find what he felt was the proper reading.

with that said if they are able to be easily changed by the owner i wouldnt worry about the numbers you put out so much. remember a dyno is mearly a tool for tuning, not for bragging. take that baseline you took and go back when you do another mod, then you will see that you are getting the results you want.

good luck and happy tuning

while i will agree with you that land and sea dyno's are not the greatest tool you still have to realize that it is how the tool is used. if the tuner is good enough anything can work to his or her advantage. also, if you are just looking for baseline numbers and to see the gains from each part any local dyno will do just fine.
