Default Best everyday gearing choice

My honda is used for both weekend racing and everyday driving. i want new gears though. which would be the best way to go? 4.44, 4.56, or 4.77? i was kind of ruling out the 4.77 because it is too tall and would probly run really high RPMs going down the highway, which during the week is where i mostly drive. well voer half of my driving is on the highway at 70+mph so i want a gear that wont do any damage to the engine and wont run very high rpms. i was thinking a mazda 4.44 gear? what kind of times would i see in the quarter and 0-60? how much time would be dropped?

Just so you know, the term "tall" typically refers to a lower numerical final drive. Anyway, I would recommend the 4.56/4.57's. Any less and it doesn't make much of a difference, any more and you'll hate driving above 70mph.

4.77 is great for autocrossing and track use. Just too much for the Street IMHO.

With my 4.57's, I'm pulling 4500rpm at 75mph - which is tolerable.

4.77 will only make your car 200 or 300 rpms higher than 4.56 in 6th gear.

Ahh yeah, here we go again...

4.44 are the best choice in every situation. big improvement over stock, very noticable if your comming from stock and not 4.77's. Tight autocross courses might be the ony exception where taller gearing would help some, but who cares, thats such a limited spicific situation. The reasons I say 4.44 are the best.

- perfect one shift to 60mph and top out in 4th in quarter mile maximizing potentul in drag racing. 5th gear shift with 4.56/57

- between shifts rpm falls down to max trq range of 6300-6500rpm maximizing the power curve of the S2000. You need a sertan amount of time beetween each gear to maximize forward movment, not just rpm movment. 4.44 brings out the full potentul between each gear. best medium between enhanced trq multiplication wile still alowing car to use its full power band where it makes the most engine trq and forward velocity.

- 4.56 and 4.77 are fun though but so are 4.44 because your winning
Just my experience.

For a DD 4.44 gears are best, little to no whine and so close to 4.56 it is hard to tell one from the other.

It is the best all round use gear. For me I have 4.56, I do not use the car as a DD and I don't mind the whine they make. The gear is made better and stronger than the 4.44.

exactlyt what he said, Its kind of a no brainer when you read everything and think about it, ALso with the 4.56/4.57 you get a whine which you should not with the 4.44 and 4.77.

Good luck with your choice!
