Best Intake/Air Filter

Not looking for better sound, but better performance and hp gains.
Currently looking at the K&N air filter/intake. Most likely looking at the K&N air filter, but searching for a different intake pipe/tube for better hp gains. Will this change anything?
Again, don't care about sound (because that's what people usually go for in an intake), if it's there cool, if it's not im cool with it. My main focus is HP gains.
Been reading through some threads and posts that throttle response is better.
does intake tubing/piping make a difference too? thanks.
if so, my plan was to get a K&n filter and buy a different branded piping/tubing if that works.

What year car do you have? The stock ECU can only do so much. I recall the Mighty Car Mods guys got half a dozen HP from the K&N FIPK. The were on a dyno. Got access to one? Roughly $100/hour where I am and without a tuneable ECU you get what you get.

FIPK certainly sounds more powerful and perception is often all that counts. :)

Ballade Sports air induction kit. I'm not sure if they sell the filter seperate from the silicone arm, but it has a velocity stack (vs) built into it. Their 1st gen filter was a K&N with a separate vs, which is nice. Their current filter is probably made in China and one piece.

You know the FIPK has a small i.d. something like 2 3/4" thats smaller than the stock intake.

My setup. It's a puffo , heat wrapped. Super easy to install & convert back to stock. Pulls fresh air in & butt dyno says it woke my car up. Sorry for side ways pic , posting from my iPhone. Good luck on your serarch for the perfect intake sir.

You are not going to extract a ton more HP out of this motor without forced induction or also improving flow exiting the engine plus an ECU tune.
Simply doing an intake filter may give you a bit better throttle response but that'a about it. Even if you got +6hp at redline I doubt you'd even notice that. I didn't notice any improvement with my K&N filter but the old one needed replacing anyways.

You know the FIPK doesn't lose power anywhere and gains power in the mid-range.

The Puffo has shown the biggest gain on this car from a well documented test of several intake strategies some years ago. Its also not that expensive. It doesn't really look cool, so it never really sold well.

The coin some people drop in intakes surprises me, since, by and large none produce any significant gains for all that $. It seems obvious that for this car, what people are buying is looks and sound.

If more performance is what you are after, you want a HFC (or tp) paired with Flashpro and a good tune that lowers vtec. This can be had for not much more than many intakes go for (less even than some), and actually produces usable gains.

Beyond that you are throwing big money at small gains, and the only cost effective way to get real gains in this car is to go FI.
