Default Broken Latch

Hi all, new here.

I have an '01 that is in great shape other than the fact that the latch on the driver's side holding the convertible soft top to the front frame of the car has completely broken. The part that you pinch to open the latch has come off, and in order to replace it, it seems that you have to peel back the soft top to replace the entire latch (sorry, not using technical terms here). The extent of my mechanical abilities is changing oil. Question 1: where can I get this part for cheap (can I order it online)? Question 2: do I need to go to a body shop to have it installed?

I'm a super amateur here, when it comes to both cars and posting on forums.

Thanks.

Olivia

You can buy the soft top latches from any online Honda parts supplier such as Majestic Honda. The driver's side soft top latch is part number 86260-S2A-013. Majestic has it for about $90. However you will probably be able to find a set of used soft top latches for sale in the classifieds section of this site for cheaper than buying one new latch. People sell them quite frequently when they part out a car, delete their soft top, or switch to different brackets on their hard top.

The latches should be easy to remove... when I installed a set of OEM soft top latches onto my hardtop all I had to do was open the latch and there were two socket head bolts inside the latch used to mount it to the hardtop. Swing open your latch and see if you can spot two bolts holding it to the soft top frame. Should be a very simple job.
