Building Custom Exhaust
Hey so i am looking to add an exhaust too my 2000 AP1 and due to being broke i would like to try my hand at making my own. I am very mechanically inclined and my friend is a good welder so i should have little trouble with the fabrication but i have no idea what i would need. I know a want a single exit because of the power gains and weight saving. I also want a 3" exhaust. The info i need would be what muffler i should get as well as were i should buy the piping/muffler. Also what other parts would i need(gaskets, pipe fittings etc.). Finally how much do you think the total project would cost.
Thanks in advance for the help!

my advice would be try to save up little by little till you can buy a decent used exhaust or new. Building your own exhaust might backfire on you in the long run.

Hopefully you have access to a mandrel bender. Here's my suggestions ..........

Banned
I'd use a vibrant 3inch muffler with a vibrant 3inch super quiet resonator.
I have done several cars with that setup, it always sounds decent and doesnt cost too much money
if you by a vibrant J bend you should have enough bends to do the whole exhaust.

"Mechanically inclined" but "no idea" what you need to fab up a cat back? Little bit of contradiction there. Single exhausts are getting cheaper e.g. HKS 75mm or try even a pre-owned system.

You could also consider replacing the 2 OEM mufflers with new cans. I was surprised at the power gains I got from replacing mine with a pair of Magnaflows. It sounds nice too.
