Default CAI Water Issue

Has anyone have problems with your CAI sucking in water during the rain? Last night, it was pouring and I was afraid that my CAI might have sucked in some water. I have this unbrand CAI that came with the car. Apparently, the last owner was freaking cheap. I found the CAI he installed on ebay for $19 Pretty cheap huh?

Im sure u should be fine, cuz the filter is a long way from the TB, and u would need to drive through a deep puddle to suck up water. I on the other hand have the AEM V2 CAI, which comes with a drain hole in case some water gets in, but Im sure I'll never need it. In my opinion, u should be fine. I have driven through hard rain before and was fine. Just avoid puddles cuz u wont know how deep they are.

A piston has a hard time compressing water. Be careful, there have been a few f20c fatalities due to the aem v2.

You hit a puddle, suck up some water, water goes into the motor, piston tries to compress as ifd it were all air, water does no compress, then parts bend because the piston can not go up all the way due to water being in the way

This style of intake (including the V2, Injen, etc) has two way's to suck water. 1) deep puddle; 2) water dripping into the intake from the hood rail.

Number 2 happens when the car is sitting still but sitting out in the rain. There is a rain rail that runs along the edge of the engine bay. A drain hole to get rid of the water sits right above the location for the filter for these style intakes. That water collects in the neck of the intake waiting for you to start the car so that it can get sucked up.

In OC you would problably so rarely see rain it would never be a problem.

Others need to take precautions and understand the risk to avoid damaging their engine.

I forgot to mention there is a small rubber drain plug that came with the aem v2 which goes in that drain hole in the hood rail.
