Your auto tech school instructor doesn't know how to install a set of cams? Really? I'd recomend you pick up a Helms manual. Installing a set of cams is not difficult but it's definately not a quick, "slip in" job.

No they dont slip in like on v-8's or other pushrod motors. They bolt in. Its pretty simple really. But yes you should get a helms manual. I downloaded mine. Not the most honest way, but it works.

it's pretty easy as long as you keep everything together, the cams "slip" on but it's a perfect fit so it takes some playing with

Guys, sorry to revive this corpse of a thread, i just needed to know if there's a DIY somewhere for cam install. I have a helms manual but its a really messy for a cam install, they have valve clearance check.. cam gear change but its not too clear on a step by step for a cm change. I would like to know if we need to remove the timing chain or re set the timing after the install. Do we need special tools for the springs and other valvetrain components or could it be done with regular tools? Thanks

the bolts that keep the 'cam pulse plates' on are reverse thread.
