Default Can i change the gears in the trans

Just bought my S a few days ago and love it. the only thing i dont like is the fact that im doing 4k at 70mph. I dont want to change the rear end gearing as i would it needs those low gears to get off the line but i would like to change 5/6 gears to a lower ratio so that the rpms drop, i dont ever plan on doing 120-130 but 3k rpms at 70 would be nice.

Is this an option? ive search but only found final drive gearing changes. thanks

You bought the wrong car then if you don't like the gearing. Ap2's even have longer 5th and 6th gears compared to AP1's. What about it do you not like though? Do you just not feel right doing that high rpm on the higway? Do you have an aftermarket exhaust that is to loud?

This is all just normal, so you will either have to A: deal with it, or B: get a different car.

Whats wrong with doing 4,000 RPM @ 70mph?

Engine load will determine fuel economy, lowering the RPM will only make the motor run less efficiently. If your car is too noisy, get a stock exhaust, you shouldnt hear the motor when you're doing 70mph unless something is busted.

What size tires do you have? There isn't anything you can really do to raise 6th gear without also raising the lower gears. However, the best way to reduce your cruising RPMs would be to A) get taller tires, and B) swap secondary reduction gears with an AP1 owner who wants lower gearing. That would give the AP1 owner the equivalent of 4.3:1 and would give you the equivalent of 3.9:1.

What exactly are you callin a secondary reduction gear?

Will probably get worse mpg if you do change it. This car revs to 9k. So 4k at 70 is not high in the rpm's at all.

You can do anything you want with enough money. But...

A) i dont know why you want to do this at all
B) i have even less of a clue why you want to do this to 5th gear.

i didnt realized i was going to get flamed for asking a question like this, jeez.

if its not possible fine, just because i want to strech my gearing out doesnt mean im destroying my car.

and i wonder why honda would change 5th and 6th gear when building the ap2 cars? maybe it was to make the car smoother and less touchy while driving down the highway???? which is what i was trying to change.

I suspect they were trying to offset the hit in gas mileage from the bump in displacement. Also, when you have more displacement (and more torque), you can achieve the same acceleration with a slightly taller gear.

I do agree with you though that the car is definitely more touchy on the car relative to other cars. The only thing you can really do about it is swap the rear end - which will make *all* of the gears taller and result in less acceleration. Swapping gears in the transmission is not practical.

Flaming? These guys have been very light as far as that goes.

Back to the topic. There is only one transmission gearing change available for the S2000 transmission that I know of. It is a shorter secondary reduction gear.
