Can you guess the air filter?
 

Bought my uk S2000 (2004) a week ago and am wondering what this airfilter setup is.

Have attached a photo:

This shows the airfilter undone or opened up so you can see it.

The actual sponge filter is housed by the metal cylindrical container you can see. So, you dont actually see the sponge filter - you only can now because Ive opened it. Whats interesting is the grey metal box on the left where the pipe going into the filter comes from.

Just wonderd if anyone had seen anything like this or can shed any light on what they think this is? My insurance company need to know abouyt modifications that increase perfromance - is this likely to or worse, is it likely to damage anything?

this looks like nothing i have ever seen before, almost looks homemade

part of me and the uk forums believe this is possibly a very well made home jobby. As to whether its working as it should is my worry!

that is definilty homemade. I would go back to stock and not worry about telling your insurance company anything.

If I changed back to stock are there any bits (other than the filter itself) that have been removed? Or is it a case of just getting a replacment filter and problem solved?

i would keep it on and do an oil anaylsis to see if it works. the silica content of your used oil will tell you if too much dirt is getting through the filter.

Somebody did their homework on that. Looks very well made, it looks like its pulling air out of the fender well, which is good. Only problem
i see, is finding out what filter that is.

you can get a replacement filter, but you are missing the airbox which encases the filter.

i think i saw this filter in redline magazine...they sell it for 199 euro i think..but yea..its good...
