Exclamation Clutch Replacement HELP

I am on a little bit more of a budget then hoped for when this issue would arise but such is life.

I need to replace the clutch in my 2002 AP1, hoping to spend under 550-600 for the part(s), as my mechanic' quote was even way higher than he expected.
Is there any specific models, links, sellers, etc that you can recommend as a sufficient replacement. This car is unmodified and not tracked or raced at all.
I know everyone says OEM or OEM with ACT pp, but I have yet to find a specific location to purchase one, let alone in my range.

If I cannot find OEM that will suffice, are any of these okay? I know I saw exedy is a big no no for our cars.

Stay oem. Don’t bother with ACT pressure plate unless you are going for more power down the road.

One of my links is the full ACT clutch for $500

My mechanic quoted me $650 for an OEM replacement, don't believe made my Honda specifically, I am waiting on an email back to which brand he pulled up specifically.
Any links to where an OEM would be in my price range?

Sorry man. I just went through the same thing after my Competition Stage 2 Clutch Disc failed on me (search my username for post if you want). I was also shocked when I got my quote and did quite a bit of shopping around trying to not get hosed. Majestic Honda seems to be a good source of OEM stuff but unfortunately this is just going to cost a bit to do it right. I would definitely recommend OEM only if you are stock.

Remember, there is never enough money to do it right but somehow always enough money to do it twice.

I totally understand, trust me I won't be putting an exedy in this lol.

Any recommendations on how to find a fairly priced OEM? I'm going to check Majestic out now

edit: do I have to look up each individual part from Honda instead of "clutch kit" like on aftermarket sites?

Yes, you will have to look up each part yourself if you are going through a dealership or OEM provider but you can probably call them up to make sure you are getting all the right parts. In general, you are looking for new OEM flywheel unless you want to get yours resurfaced. Probably should replace the pilot bearing though if you do resurface so its probably less trouble to just buy a new OEM flywheel with a new bearing already in it. You will also need pressure plate, clutch disc, throwout bearing, and the all important OEM high temp urea grease.

Or Moddiction and Evasive Motorsport sells kits that are well priced. Search Moddiction on this forum and they may still have a deal going.

There is this kit as well. I haven't used it but may be a little cheaper than OEM.

I would just have the flywheel resurfaced no need to buy a new one if you are staying with OEM considering a new OEM flywheel is $320. Hell I don't even think you need to replace the pressure plate so long as its not really worn out.

If you do go with an aftermarket kit it is still recommended to use OEM bearings so keep that in mind. $650 for the work is pretty standard for a shop. Pretty sure I paid $750 when I had my new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel installed. I went with the Act pressure plate, act streetlite flywheel and OEM disk with oem bearings. This is one of those things that just spend the money to do it right now and you wont need to mess with it for a long time. The last thing you want is something going out shortly after doing it because you bought cheap parts.

Is your current clutch a factory clutch?

To save money,
you may not need a new pressure plate. Your genuine Honda one reusable in most cases.

Buy a new Genuine Honda:
-Disc
-Release bearing
-Pilot bearing
-Release bearing guide (don't skip this or you'll regret it)
-Honda urea grease

Don't buy an aftermarket "OEM equivalent" clutch. There's significant risk involved there.

There are a few special procedures required to properly install a S2000 clutch. Filling the release bearing groove with urea grease, for example. So make sure the tech knows what he's doing and is going to take his time.

I've seen labour quoted between $300 and $850.

I am wrapping up a clutch install on my S2000 today. I did it in my garage. Its not difficult at all. Just requires a little finesse.

I ended up going with this kit for a great price.

I thank everyone for their input and advice.
