Custom Exhaust
Ive been brain storming lately about an exhaust mod that I think would be pretty damn sweet but I wanted to hear some opinions on my idea before I start spending money. I am aware that the stock exhaust is quite efficient so I dont really want to spend a bunch for minimal power gains. I also like to be different from the rest, so here it goes.... I want to replace the stock mufflers with "slip on" (welded on, obviously) mufflers from an aftermarket motorcycle exhaust. I figure that 2 single mufflers that are made for a 1000cc bike that revs to 13k+ rpm should provide sufficient flow on my 2000cc revving to 9k. Opinions on this assumption?
Im planning on going with either carbon fiber or annodized red or red/black (something like this.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MICRON-Yama...sspagenameZWDVW ) to match my BB AP1. As far as cosmetics this will look AWESOME! Opinions? As far as sound I have no idea but I have a feeling it would be quite unique. Opinions? I have found slightly used "cans" and even new ones for quite cheap. I still need to research the pipe diameters but I dont think this will be an issue. As long as I dont lose any power I will be happy. If the mufflers on the stock exhaust are the restrictive part I might even see a slight improvement.
Here is where my idea gets a lil far fetched...I also thought about the possibility of a true dual setup.. figured I could cut a 4-2-1 header at the "2" and continue each smaller diameter pipe individually to the rear or maybe even side exit? I realize that this would require alot of work and would need individual cats. Any and all opinions welcome... if you think im retarded, let me know!

Youll probably get flamed for that side exit idea, thats too 'domesticy'
Why would you want a "true" dual exhaust? 4 cylinders are not meant to have 2 exhausts, you will probably lose power from doing this. Cant serve any good purpose.
And why a motorcycle muffler? Alot of people on here run magnaflow mufflers and are really happy with them. If I were you I would just get some magnaflow mufflers and paint them with some high-temp paint or something if you just want looks and sound.

the motorcycle mufflers have been done to a couple different vehicles. My buddy's ae86 has a yoshimura exhaust on it! the side pipes if you happen to still want to do it, i would not recommend cutting the oe header to get a true dual. just start it at the end of the collector and do a Y split there. I think that it would be alot louder than stock in the sidepipe configuration though...

Motorcycle mufflers are nothing but fancy looking, light resonators. It would be alot cheaper to just put on a resonator and run a pipe straight back-but its going to be really really loud!
Don't mess with the header, put a heavy duty resonator as close as you can to the header, followed by an adjustable Helmholtz resonator straight back to a single muffler. All aspects of the exhaust should be 70mm except the helmholtz pipe.
With the adjustable helmholtz pipe, you can adjust the noise and you get all the power of a 70mm
I believe this will create a modestly quiet exhaust (depending on the parts you use and gage of pipe)
That would be a nice project

There is a shop in birmingham, al that specializes in putting bike mufflers on cars. I think they use Busa ones now. My grandfather knows who it is I will call and ask him tonight and let you know. They should be able to provide some info for you.
