Differential changes over the years
Hi guys,
I am looking at installing a 4.77 final gear. I will purchase a secondary diff to swap out the gears in that. As my car has only 7,000 miles I don't want to open the stock diff and would rather keep it as a basically brand new spare.
Can anyone tell me what changes were made in the differential over the years? I know that the internals of the pre facelift diff are not the same as the facelift. I am currently looking at a used diff off a 2005 EUDM model which came with the F20C. Would this be exactly the same as mine? I read somewhere that 06+ models had a breather box attached to the diff. Any idea if I would be able to use my stock breather box with it or does it have a hole in the diff casing to attach to?
My car is a 2008 EUDM AP1 facelift if it helps.

Thanks in advance

USDM AP2's received a reworked diff with slightly stronger internals and a flange that accepts M10 bolts instead of M8. We also got the F22C which had more torque and power...so perhaps the diff upgrade was hand-in-hand with that.
IDK how the diff upgrade happened in the rest of the world.
Check the driveshaft bolts.
Are they a M10?
If so...use an AP2 diff for an easy swap.

Compare part numbers and you will find out which years and models that differs.
