Default Do you need tune for a test pipe?

I just installed my 70 mm test pipe with my 70 mm catback. Do you need to get a tune or is it fine to run without the tune? My friend keeps telling my that my engine will be running very rich and my engine will blow up unless I get it tuned.

I just want to make sure that I am not harming my engine in any way if I do not get a tune with the test pipe. Thanks.

My mods are only the exhaust and test pipe 70mm. I do not have an intake or anything else.

You have a Ap2 06+? you will not run rich, but lean.

The only time i think a test pipe would be worth it is if you tune as you gain a lot of mid-tq and lower vtec.

otherwise the 5-6hp isn't worth all the cons as 5-6hp isn't even noticable.

No, not worth tuning for that. Intake/header/exhaust I'd be more inclined to say yes if you want to start utilizing the power the parts are capable of putting out.. But no not just for a testpipe.

I have a 2005 S2000, what do people normally do to tune their car. Like I know a Hondata reflash won't work, so do I have to get a standalone ECU in order to tune my car?

Either that or a piggy back such as the VAFC. You could also use K-pro but there is a lot of work involved with getting it to work. Your friend doesn't know what he is talking about. Test pipe is one of the cheapest mods that will yield the most power. A few horsepower is hardly noticeable but the feel of the car is different. Smoother transitions and such.

Would running my engine lean cause any excessive engine wear. I heard that it can cause valve wear or overheat the cylinders due to the fuel acting as coolant and your rings will wear faster, etc.

yes runing too lean can cause damage...however, having a test pipe wont even get you close to leaning out to cause a problem...and like stated before, your friends a moron
