Don't know which one to get...
Hey guys, so I'm new here and i was hoping that i could get some feedback from all the vets that are on here. See the thing is that i just bought a used 2000 AP1 and from what i know about the car, is that it's clean all around, but I'm starting to get the feeling that my clutch is about to give out ( I'm sure some of you know that weird feeling in your gut ) and I want to go ahead and buy a new clutch kit that has a street disc, cuz I'm going to use this as my DD and i don't want the ride to work and back to be such a pain. So I would really appreciate any feedback and suggestions you guys can give me. I just don't know which brand offers the best clutch at the best price ya know??? besides, things are so expensive for this car that i don't want to go ahead and through away my money.
Hi, and welcome
You will get a ton of response on this subject with lots of opinion, here is mine.
First, clean and bleed the clutch master. This little bit of maintenance goes a long way in how the clutch responds in this car. If things do not improve here is my suggestion.
#1 choice for me and what I currently have in my car,
I think that the Spec light pressure plate (4 pounds less than stock) the factory OEM friction disc, and keep you factory 14 pound AP1 flywheel but, have it machined before reusing.
This setup has better clamping force than stock, has a light peddle engagement, and is a money saver because, you do not need to purchase a light weight flywheel. The money you save can go towards the install.
Good luck

well I am thinkin of putting some upgrades soon; nothing to crazy, just some basic mods, but i just think that a 4 or 6 puck clutch kit is a little overkill for my needs. I've had them on my civics before and they were PITA during rush hour, i was thinking of getting an ACT with a street disc. Would a lighter flywheel make much of a difference on this car?

i'm using the ACT and couldn't be happier. it's a little heavier than the OEM one but it's not unbareable especially comparing to my old Saleen's clutch.

Read my post again, both setups I listed use a full face organic friction disc not a 4 or 6 puck. The Spec PP is already 4 pounds lighter than stock. With this setup there is no need to buy a $400 light flywheel the money you save can go to the install.
