Default Drink holder cover spring

Hello - My 17+ year old AP1 S2000 has a broken spring in the cupholder. The top no longer pops up. You can push down the front, then the back, to tip it open, but I miss the spring opening. Any ideas? The new cup holder assembly isn't that expensive, but the install appears to be a pain and I'm afraid I'll break some of the center console clips getting that all apart to replace the cupholder - meaning more stuff to fix. I know it seems trivial, but my S2000 is pretty pristine and it's a single owner car (me) the whole time. I like everything working! Thanks in advance.

Mine broke too and I bought the new piece from Honda Parts Unlimited, under $20.
its easy to install, all you need to do is pop up the center console, there are directions on how to replace if you do a google search.
took me 20 minutes to replace the broken part and spring.

haha funny mine just broke about a month ago in my 01. Was kind of disappointed myself as its kind of a nifty feature. I couldn't exactly figure out what mechanism broke at face value, not digging into it. Good to hear there is a fix.

Is it just a spring or what breaks exactly? Maybe I can just take it apart and fix it without ordering parts.

Thanks! I'll take a look at the work to fix it. The part is available and inexpensive.

^ That's AP2 console. AP1 I think you have to buy a new cup holder assy.
