Default Dual exhaust for daily driving?

I'm a loser and like doing extensive homework and research before I buy so I know how many funds to allocate for the future.

I was looking around at duals for my AP2 daily driver. My budget is around $1k give or take a few hundreds. If my budget was near $2k, I'd go with the Mugen AP2's no questions asked.

With that being said: if anyone is selling their Mugen AP2 exhaust, I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

Anyways, I really prefer the canister/J's look. I'm not a big fan of the huge, stainless steel mufflers look (ie: Tanabe Touring, Greddy SE, ASM Type S). Not to sound like a broken record, but minimal drone is highly preferred since I do some highway driving two or three times a week. On top of that, I like not getting pulled over, so I do want a loud exhaust but not one that screams at the top of its lungs "pull me over," that's why a Mugen system is my dream exhaust. I'd like to consider this exhaust with a HFC sometime after the initial exhaust purchase.

So far, all I've found is nothing. Should I suck it up and go with the Mugen or would anyone be able to chime in with an opinion for my follies? This is purely for sound and maybe mid range gains later on. Need my car to sound real fast in the Taco Bell drive thru.

If you REALLY want no drone, I highly suggest doing the OEM UK exhaust mod with either 38mm or 44mm piping. It sounds good, adds a nice note to the stock exhaust and sounds great from the outside, but in the cabin it sounds like it is stock (you can heard it a little with the top down or windows down, but still close to stock).

I have done a 38mm UK exhaust mod, but I moved onto the Greddy SE with a 70mm test pipe and imo it definitely drones quite a bit. There are times when I feel like it is quiet, but other times i feel like the drone is really loud. It kind of depends on my mood, but for a direct comparison to stock, the drone is loud.

Other aftermarket exhausts that I have read were pretty quiet and have minimal drone are Tanabe Medalion touring and Fujitsubo exhaust Legalis R

EDIT:
UK exhaust mod should only cost you $100 or less!

I have the Greddy SE as well and agree with jaor.s2k.

Most exhausts don't provide any power gains anyways, the ones that do are going to be loud. The Fuji is nice, but I found it to be too quiet.

You don't want it but I've had both the Tanabe touring and Fujitsubo legalis r, both of them are perfect for daily driving.

If you want sound without the drone, then just do the UK mod.

You really want an hks dual.. With a test pipe will have next to no drone whatsoever. Looks are subjective but you can always fit OEM AP2 tips over the HKS tips for a factory look.

+1 for this!

My gosh the sound that the HKS duals + test pipe makes is amaaaaaazing. I only switched back to a cat because my test pipe was utter garbage and leaked around the collector, but now it drones a little around 3-4k with the windows up and top up.

I've looked into the subject a lot and everyone says either the TOuring or Legalis, I just can't get over looking at the big mufflers at the back..? I guess it's just me. But I heard they're the favorites so far for sound factor while still keeping it down.

I've seen some HKS Spec-L and Hipower but I don't know much about their exhausts; are they raspy?

Can anyone chime in on J's, specifically the 60RS and 70RS duals? I don't mind drone, I just don't want it to be overwhelming is all.

No rasp with a HKS hi-power dual. None. Zero.

The car sounds like a G35/350Z but better.
