Adding the wrong size resonator or putting one in the wrong place could just as likely increase drone. Drone is caused by the resonant properties of the exhaust pipe, which is determined by many factors.

After spending many, many months studying drone, and building counless prototypes for my mid-pipe, I found that the "irritation factor" of drone isn't the magnitude of the sound as much as the purity of the note. When an exhaust is droning at its peak (usually at about 3500 RPMs for the S2000), the frequency emitted from the exhaust is very, very focussed on one exact frequency. However, as the engine moves further from the drone RPM, the frequency spectrum broadens and flattens. The overall sound level doesn't really change much, but the irritating sensation caused by the pure drone frequency goes away.

I haven't ever tried installing Dynamat to eliminate drone, but I suspect that it might actually make the drone more irritating, since I believe the Dynamat would simply reduce the amount of "white noise" that makes drone more tolerable. Everyone knows that drone isn't bad with the top down, but they probably don't realize that the reason for that is due to all the extra noise from wind that simply makes drone less peircing.

Gernby, I love your design, I just can't justify that price tag. I'm more inclined to put the stock exhaust back on the car with this mod:

or perhaps modify my skunk2 like this:

The "weiner pipe" on the OEM exhaust (and some aftermarket systems) only work if the OEM cat is present OR there is an HFC installed in just the right location. It actually is not a Helmholtz resonator, as many people call it.

If you have a skunk2 exhaust don't try and modify that exhaust. Just get rid of it and buy a better quality exhaust. Those are one of the loudest exhausts and are one of the worst ones for drone.

Test pipe does get rid of a little drone, but not much. Mine still drones at 3,000-4,000 rpms. I think it has to do with the gas tank design. When i get past 1.2 a tank the drone gets worse. At almost empty it really sucks. I also stuffed the area above the gas tank with big piece of fame that I got a a fabric store. Helped some, and was like 10 bucks

replace your exhaust to fix the drone rather than dynamatting
