Default Ebay short shifter.

so i have notice this rattle for a while now. not sure if it has been there since the installment of the C's style short shifter or it has been developing and i recently took notice. i had a friend install it for me while i was gone. he was replacing my clutch, i told him go ahead and install the short shifter. when i came back everything was fine. but, i didnt like using allen heads on the bolts on the part that holds the shift shaft down, should have left those damn things alone. well, this is way back when i was a noob about EVERYTHING. i got screws that "kinda" fit. they were sae not metric. so i pretty much ended up stripping the two or all three of the bolt holes. well i remember two were ok, but one was pretty much stripped. i did end up buying the right size screws, i wanted hex heads. i had to use loctite on the stripped hole.

my questions are:

1. is it the shifter fault that it is rattling?

2. is it because only two of three screws are holding it in?

3. could i just retap the hole to fit a slightly larger bolt? and would metal shaving get into transmission?

thanks
alan

sub question for moddiction: if it is my shifter and all i need to do is replace the damn thing, WHEN THE HELL ARE THOSE SHORT SHIFTERS COMING OUT?? lol i have been waiting forever!

Hey man. Mine did the same thing and actually the shifter itself broke in half basically so was the metal on the inside rattling against each other. Hopefully not the same for you though.

haha. They will be coming out but taking a good bit longer to make sure they are perfect. Should have some pictures shortly to post up of it.

If it broke in half, how does it still shift?

Well what happened to mine was the inside part with the rubber came off in there but since it went inside of the outer shell around the rubber it still would shift but would rattle like crazy.
It's pretty easy to pull it out and take a look. Just those 3 bolts holding it in and then pulls out.
if you do pull it out make sure to have it in neutral when you do.

I remember how to take it out. Would yours just vibrate all the time?

Not always. I believe it depended on the rpm somewhat.

Hmmm could be different then. Not sure really. If it just started happening then probably something got loose or broke I would think.
