Default Exhaust cut out

I would like to put an electronically actuated exhaust cut out on my AP2. This way I can have extra engine noise when I want or I can have the car factory quiet at the flick of a switch. The cost of an electronic exhaust cut out is about 200$. Less then the cost of an aftermarket cat back.

My question is dose anybody think running with the cut out open can harm the engine. I know with many cars the problem with running open header is that cool air can inter the exhaust pipes and cool the exhaust valves too quickly, but with a cut out you can close it before you shut down. However during my research about the topic some people feel that the minimized back pressure can cause the engine to run lean. Do you think having less back pressure can cause the F22 to run lean or cause harm any other way?

sounds similar to a thread I made not too long ago.
If it helps:

Any pics of the cut out open/closed, or better yet a video?

I have not built the system yet. I am trying to make sure there is no way that it can harm my engine before I do it.

There's no way it can harm anything.

I disagree. I wouldn't run a coutout without retuning the car. There is a danger of running lean up top, especially on an AP2

You honestly think a freer flowing exhaust is going to make THAT much of a difference? I'd be willing to bet cash that there are no harmful effects in running an exhaust cutout and I've done it on many cars.

One thing I'll say is you might want to bolt a turndown to the cutout so that you don't get exhaust residue all over your underbody.

Umm yea. Where do you think the hp gain comes from?

A regular cat back, no not that much of a difference. But a cutout is a whole different situation, could cause an abnormal lean condition in open loop that can cause damage

It wouldn't be a whole lot different than running a 70mm or 75mm single exhaust...there are plenty of people on here with full boltons running a stock tune.

Not going to argue with you dude but I'll just say I don't agree. A full exhaust is very different than a cutout. A cutout on a N/A car is the equivalent of running open header.

Just because people are doing it, doesn't make it right.
