First S2000 - need advice on setup for street/autox
Hi Everybody,
After looking for months I finally scored a beautiful 2007 S2000. The car is like brand new (13k miles and had never seen rain until I drove it home two days ago). I want to set it up as a fun summer daily driver, but also do Auto-X a couple times a year. In the past I have autocrossed my Mitsubishi Evo and my BMW 135i M sport.
I want to put on a set of RPF1's with RE-11's but I'm not sure if I want to go with a square setup (17x9x+63 w/245's)or stay stock (17x8,17x9+45 225/245). I am not planning on upgrading the suspension at this point and I'm concerned that if I go square without upgrading the suspension that I will actually make it handle worse for autox.
Eventually (if I decide to keep the car for a while) I want to set it up like the S2000 project on the MotoIQ board (http://www.motoiq.com/projects/honda...nda_s2000.aspx). I'm hesitant to do a ton of mods and roll the fenders because the car is in such incredible shape.
If I go square I'll add the whiteline swaybar.
I've spent a ton of time on this board and this is my first post. I really appreciate the input.

You got your offsets mixed up there... the RPF1's have the +45 offset, not the OEM wheels. I'm sure you have, but spend some time in the R&C forum looking at other autox setups for wheels, suspension, etc. I am assuming you want to land in STR? A good set of 9" wheels (preferably with less aggressive offsets) and a good tire will be the best thing for you. A square +45 offset may cause fender issues particularly in the front if you don't plan on rolling (which isn't STR friendly). Pairing them with a bigger FSB will help. I have the Saner bar and find it plenty enough for a 255 square setup. Also, the tire size of choice on a square STR setup would be a 255... the Dunlop Z-II's, Hankook RS-3's, BFG Rivals, and the now old Star Specs being the tires of choice.
The R&C forum has an untold amount of info on STR setups to get you started. Congrats on the purchase!

I was all ready to buy wheels, tires, intakes and a bunch of stuff that would really get me no where.
I took a step back and realized that I don't really have to change much to enjoy the car on the autox course.
The only things I've changed on my S2000 is the alignment, added 225/255 Z2's and naturally bought a HKS Hi-power because these cars sound absolutely amazing with an exhaust.
Long story short, I want to learn to drive the car as it is from the factory per say before I go and change a bunch of stuff.
I think thats the best way to go about it. I think you will be more than pleased even if you just get a set of sticky 215/245 street tires and go out on the course. Spend your money on events that give you seat time.

^ What I always suggest. Questions like this always seem like the result of not enough seat time. Track/autocross and you'll know what you want to do.
I ended up going with Enkei PF01's 17x9+60 all the way around with RE11a's. Also brought the car to Small Fortune Racing today and had Bill Gendron himself install a monster FSW and mounts. He also aligned it. It has completely transformed the car! AutoX on Sunday, can't wait.
