I have an AP2 tranny in my AP1, with J's 4.3 PuddyDiff.

I love this combo for S/C because going from stop the "gear torque" helps me get up to Vtec quickly then the extra power from the S/C takes over.

But then my 5th and 6th gear is about the same as my stock AP1 tranny with the 4.1, so I don't give up too much rpm if I'm just cruising on the highway.

The extra bonus is that the AP2 tranny shifts a lot smoother than AP1. My AP1 tranny never had any grinds, but it felt notchy even after fresh fluids, where as the AP2 tranny, as soon as it warms up, it shifts like butter.

How much did your AP2 trannys run for plus installation?

i also got an ap2 trans in my ap1. in my opinion, the ratio change didn't affect performance noticeably. maybe just a tad. if you want a noticeable change, you'll still have to supplement with diff gears.

btw, your speedo will be off after doing this swap. you'll need to get a yellow jacket or yellow box to correct. shameless ad for myself:

i hear about the s2000 suppose to have an amazing gearbox but was a little dissapointed with my ap1. glad to hear the ap2 is better. 143mph seems like a good enough top speed. maybe i should do an ap2 tranny and a new diff w/ gears.

if you do the ap2 tranny swap will you have the same top speed as an AP2 with the gears?

IE: with 4.77s on an ap1 the top speed is 143, but in an AP2 the top speed is 129, if you popped an AP2 tranny with 4.77s would you have the 129 top speed?

Nice combo would be Ap2 tranny with 4.44

Cost effective would be ap1 tranny with 4.57 or 4.77

No, because you have another 1000rpm before redline that the AP2 doesn't. Kinda academic though...how many times are you going to hit redline in 6th?

Im about to purchase an AP2 transmission for my AP1. Will I need a yellow box thing to recalibrate my speedometer after the transmission swap?

I have read yes in some places, but more no's in other places...it all depends on where the speed sensor is, looking at the manual, I always thought it was after the trans, so my guess would be no.
