Default Haltech E8?

Well I had a local tuner (Staticx motorsports) totally lie to me about installing my AEM EMS. He wanted to sell it to me, i found it cheaper. 1-2 weeks later he states he wont install or tune my AEM EMS as he has a partnership with HAltch now. I saved the cash and bought the AEM because this tuner was local and ssaid they were capable and willing.

So here is my request.....

Please shed some light on the Haltech unit

Thanks.

They're a Christian organization... I hate to say it, but a lot of the biggest scammers have ended every e-mail with "God bless."

They're the company selling the SOT positive displacement supercharger kit.

I see Haltech all over their website. Haltech has been around forever. They are a well known engine management company.

As far as Static X Motorsports: I'm guessing you went to them asking about engine management. They said we'll sell you an AEM for $XXXX, install it for $xxx, and tune it for $xxx. You didn't like their price and went online to save $100. You then came back with a random EMS from who knows where and asked them to install and tune it. They were probably ticked off and decided not to deal with you or your AEM. Is that about right? If they were into tuning only, it would be weird for them to say no. Because they're a full service shop, you probably took away one of their sources of revenue thereby making it unprofitable to deal with you. (hence their new suggestion for you to go Haltech)

One more comment. It's always a good idea to ask a local shop what their policy is on installing and tuning parts bought online. There are a lot of local shops who won't even get near those parts. It causes a LOT more headaches for them than you realize. Before you went online and bought your parts, you should have specifically asked them if they would install and tune parts you bought online.

You are pretty much right, but i was a bit more honest about the price and where i was getting it from. I gave them a price and said if you can match it or beat it i will buy from you. they said they couldnt, but would be happy to install/tune. well come today i tried to set up an appt but they said no can do. they said they wont install an inferior product in my car. come to find out the salesman spoke out of his ass before he even coordinated with his tuner. so its partly the $$$ thing, but i think they just dont know what they are doing when it comes to AEM stuff. why was it ok and "no problem" initially? they were a dealer even!!! also i think that Haltech is offering better profits or more support than AEM was too. i told the guy i assumed ALL responsibility for the AEM, and that it came from a dealer and not some damn ebay crap. everything was asked an brought to attn upfront before the purchase. i wouldnt dream of buying something of this caliber without totally knowing i had support locally. the salesman said he made a mistake by not asking his tuner first. tell me how a repeat customer is deemed unprofitable? how can a few hours of install on a ECU and me paying full price for dyno tuning NOT be profitable? if they are a tuner like they claim, then what does it matter? they should be competent enough regardless to tune with the EMS. so in my eyes you are right, but i did ask up front about the terms of me bringing the AEM in myself. now im stuck with a damn EMS and no support. making a mistake isnt being dishonest, however fibbing about it to cover your mistake is. christian or not.

thanks tim for your response, but just like that company you should give me/people the benefit of the doubt first before assumption takes over.

from the get-go all they wanted to do is sell sell sell......they werent even interested in my direction or what i wanted. they kept looking at my parts and saying"where'd you get that from?" "you know we sell that right?" " you could have fake stuff because you didnt buy it from us" blah blah blah. it was a bit of a insult to assume that anyone didnt know what they were doing or where to buy real products. he even stated that they werent used to dealing with customers with my knowledge, so what does that tell you?

That sucks. I do understand where you're coming from and I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. I generally don't like taking sides between dealers and customers online. There's always some truth to both sides and neither party is too happy about the outcome.

The initial part of my post was meant to be hard on Static X, while I later tried to offer a scenario where what they did might be justified. The fact that they offered you the Haltech and said the AEM is crap after you already bought it and they said tuning wouldn't be a problem reflects very poorly on them.

One of the problems with the AEM EMS has always been that pretty much anybody could sell it. There are a lot of AEM dealers who have no clue how to tune the EMS. Other EMS companies have this problem as well, but not to the same extent.

Here's what I think. You already have the AEM. Stick with it. Learn how to tune and install it yourself, or find another reputable shop. It's probably not worth trying to deal with these guys anymore. If you're interested in tuning, check out http://www.efi101.com The courses are definitely worth it, especially for someone new to tuning.

thanks for that link man!!!!

they are sticking by their reason of "the AEM is an inferior product, and we will be offering a superior product."

i am finding out the hard way that anyone can sell you the EMS, but only a few can tune with it. so far all i have is an expensive paper weight.

i think the market or Haltech is forcing them to make this move. he said he didnt care who i bought it from, because he was going to make more on tuning than the sale. which was my thinking initially.

the part about all of this that rubs me raw is that a week ago the AEM was available through them and WAS NOT inferior and they would install it. now the AEM is inferior and they cant/wont install it.

all i ask is better communication and a possible heads up from the tuner on things like this.

Your are entitled to your opinion as is everybody...

I will continue to take my car to them as they have been nothing but perfectly honest with me.

And yes they are very knowledgeable with the AEM EMS. I was going to go with until I decided that the Greddy ULT was more then enough for my setup.
