Default Hard dog roll bar for tall guys

Hi guys

I am 6"3, and currently run my car on stock seats with BYS lowered rail. This gives me a better driving position, and although not quite ideal I was happy with it so far as the car was used as a street car and I did not want to compromise it by installation of low aftermarket bucket seats & rails.

However, things have moved on a little bit, and I intend to track my car more frequently in the future.

My current setup is horrendous in terms of roll protection, as the top of my head sits well above the stock roll hoops, even more so with a helmet on.

Having looked at various options, the Hard Dog roll bar seems to give better roll protection, whilst still fitting just under the softop or hardtop.

If I am going to go for this I would like to ensure that I end up with a good and safe setup, the success criteria being passing the "broomstick test" with a helmet.

Have any of you tall guys managed it? if so what seat / rails did you go for?

Many thanks

A friend of mine is 6'4 and he used the Bride Lowmax seats with lowered rails. He also ran the seat without the bottom cushions, which dropped another inch. I'm 5'7 and I couldn't drive his car, because I couldn't see over the dash. Without a helmet, his head was right at level with the stock hoops. That's the only experience I've had. Hope it helps.

any roll bar options that allow your seat to be moved all the way back, while still being able to use the secret compartment?

Thanks guys for the responses so far

How odd, yesterday when i looked at the thread there was another response, someone posted a link too his HD install, a very neat one for that matter. Wonder what happened... I was ready to fire some more questions!

Keep your comments coming if you have any experience of HD install and low seat setup, much appreciate it!

I have a HardDog Bar with Bride Seats and Bride Rails 1" lower than stock seats. I'm 5' 10" and Barely pass the "Broomstick" test by 1/2 inch with my helmet on.

HardDog bar also touches the softtop so its using all the space it can.

Your going to have to lower the seat really low

Do what this guy done and extend his rollhoop higher.

balladesports makes a rollbar that goes higher, but it requires a hardtop since it doesn't fit under the soft top..

Thanks guys, I think you have confirmed what I was afraid of, I am unlikely to fit under the bar, with helmet on, unless I go with a taller design than hard dog. This would mean compromising the car quite a bit...

That ballade sports design looks great, I could still run the car with OEM hardtop (allbeit after removing the lining), no softop though which is still a big ask for me

I will have to sleep over this a few nights!

Alternative option here: I had stock seats and BYS low seat rails (which I am selling by the way, PM me people!). I am 6"2 and would not pass the broomstick test. Here is what I did (before I went all the way to bucket seats, but I am not any lower because of the seat angle ):
Remove the leather cushion with the foam (it all comes together, very easy). Beat down the pan where your pelvis bone rests, all the way until the pan touches the carpet. Put custom cushion: I put 1/2" dense foam on the bottom, a thin layer wrapping around the front of the pan, 2" thick dense foam cut in the center to make the bolsters. Then I re-upholstered the bottom of the seat myself. It took me the whole week-end, granted, but the result was great: best custom seat ever. The seat wrapped around my butt perfectly, I was seating super low, and I had amazing lateral support. And the seat was still comfortable.
You could actually have the seat re-upholstered by a pro if you want it to look close to stock for around 250$ in leather (it is really a tough job to do yourself, I have to admit).

It Is strongly recommended that you use bucket seats and harness with a roll bar. All 3 function together properly. A missing item from this trio may make an accident more dangerous in the right situations.

That being said, to be as safe as possible, a lowered bucket seat would solve all your issues.

Some people don't realize, but the Rockstar bar is actually both wider and taller than the hd bars while utilizing a similar design. Our bars work with both soft top and hardtop. Fits within millimeters of contact points and is built to nasa and scca rulebooks. I actually race with nasa.

My brother is 6'4" and sits under the bar with a helmet. I am 6ft and easily fit.

Our bars are in Stock and ready to ship. Please see what other customers have said and how they exceed the competitions quality.

We can also help you out with seats and rails if need be. All in One shipment
