Default hardtops reduces noise

had my s2000 for a month, and i feel HT is a must for me since the car is pretty loud on highway.

for those people who had experience on both oem and aftermarket ( seibon, vis, mugen ) hardtops. i want to ask: does oem reduce noise more than aftermarket?

I don't have a direct answer to your question. But I'd like to chime in to say that the OEM hardtop does make the car quieter than the softop mostly by lowering the noise intrusion from surrounding traffic and exterior noise sources. It isn't much quieter for windnoise, road/tire noise, engine noise, or exhaust noise when comparing a properly fitting softop to a properly fitting HT. So it is a quieter setup but it is still a noisy ride for various reasons. The OEM HT is the best you can do to reduce noise, it's just relative.

From what I can tell the extra thickness of the OEM hartop - double aluminum shell in some areas, interior liner, interior plastic panels, glass window and seal system - should offer superior noise reduction over thinner shelled aftermarket HT's. I personally haven't tested other Hardtops besides the OEM Honda, but the visual differences suggest improved insulation from exterior noise.

exactly what he said cause I have the oem hardtop and I can finally hear the music at a lower volume at 9-12 with hardtop with soft top I listen the music at 21 volume when traffic is loud on highway. I don't really hear traffic noise and around 70+mph I can hear the slight wind on the freeway but overall it's really quiet. Any hardtop will help reduce noise and you can't go wrong with any of them. Good luck picking the hardtop.

there are a few used ones on the for sale forum, if you can locate one near your location and the colour you want it is the most affordable way to go. I bought a black one for my SSM car, black goes with any colour really.

I'm not familiar with that one, sounds like a cool idea. Keep in mind aftermarket HT's require you to buy installation kits with parts that are part of the OEM package. The cost of the installation parts adds a lot of cost to the seemingly inexpensive HT's.
