Hey guys, im installing my Fortune Auto 500 coilovers (literally right now), and i dont know what height to adjust them to, i want a ~2 inch drop, how many inches (or threads) from fully extended will i need to go for a 2'' drop!!!

 

depends on your spring rates, they play a big role. you seriously just have to guess

what i did was i heightened mine (cause from the box they're slammmmmmedddd) until i had about a 4 finger gap all around when the car was on jacks (with the wheel on). when i put her on the ground, it gave me a finger gap in the front and half a finger in the rear. i have 10k springs all around btw

this weekend i'm going to lower the fronts to half finger to match the rear

 

i appriciate the reply! the guessing sucks! im 9k spring rate all around, its such a pain to remove everything to adjust the height!

 

FYI, u can adjust the Fortune coils on the car without removing them. Also make sure you're adjusting the height and not the preload.

 

how do you adjust the preload while it's on the car?
i set the preload before i installed them, but i think i messed up one of my rears when i was adjusting the height cause when i drive i can hear the infamous "clunk" noise in my rear passenger side and occasional creaking (which i'm guessing is the spring binding?) it's only on that side. all my other coils are fine

I dont think u can adjust the preload with them on the car. Sounds like u need to remove that coil, set the preload and reinstall. Clunking and creaking is not good.

 

i thought you COULD set preload on the car, you just tighten the coller closest to the spring then tighten the coller that comes directly after to lock it in... I believe this was explained on Fortne Autos Youtube video explaination..

But hey, how do you adjust height while on the car? i thought the entire bottom attachment point needed to spin.

 

To raise the ride height with the coils on the car... Loosen the lowest collar at the bottom of the coilover, then put your wrench on the middle collar and turn to the right (counterclockwise when viewed from above). The whole coilover will spin which will spin the coilovers higher out of the bottom mount piece, lengthening the coilovers body and raising the ride height.

The lower the ride height... loosen the bottom collar next to the mount point, then put your wrench on the upper collar right next to the spring and twist to the left (clockwise when viewed from above). This will spin the whole coilovers down into the mount piece, lowering the ride height.

 

well fixed my clunking noise, i didn't tighten the top 2 bolts enough in my rear passenger. no more noises now :]
coolguy is right about adjusting the height while it's on the car.
i've never heard of adjusting the preload while it's on, that's why i was curious
