Thumbs up High Flow Cat (HFC) - Worth it?

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the Asura Dual exhaust. I have the KW high boost kit and the funds for a new exhaust, so I think it's finally justified.

My question is this: Will I see any significant gains if I add the HFC as well, or is it just a volume boost? I have no idea how an HFC effects volume, power, or mileage. I have PM'd Asura, but have yet to get a response.

I'm not looking for increased volume. Quite the opposite actually. However, if I could get some gains out of it, I'd consider adding the HFC. Does anyone know exactly how much (if any) of a gain I could expect?

I've also read that the Asura HFC is giving some people fits with CEL errors. I don't know what a CEL error is, but it sounds no bueno. I have a MY06. Feel free to school me on the subject.

I'd love to hear all of your opinions, both Pro and Con on the subject.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

if you are using the stock cat right now, a TP or HFC will help your turbine spools up faster, there's nothing wrong with the oem cat at stock form but if you are moving a lot of air in and out you want something that is less restrictive. At this point most people would go for a TP, hell, i had a tp when i was boosted but it's very bad for the surrounding.

a good HFC provides a less restrictive flow and ability to get rid of most of the dirty smog in the process, yes, they cost more than a Tp but i would still get one.

not sure what do you mean by volume boost, it doesnt not change the amount of waste gas it process, the HFC would just let the gas go thru the catalysis faster than an oe cat. it will some what louder than stock cat but it will not be any where nearly as loud as running TB.

no sure on CEL, it could be anything from placement of the bung, the efficient of the cat, etc.

gain will depends on the size and construction of the HFC, and the amount of boost you are running/set up, generally it's a good bump if you further dyno tune it.

without knowing your set up, there's no way to know

good luck

My setup thus far is pretty basic. MY06 with the Kraftwerks High Boost supercharger, and a new clutch and flywheel. Otherwise stock. This question is posed with the idea that I WILL BE adding the Asura dual 70mm exhaust.

When I said volume, I meant loudness. In hindsight, I can see that could also be read as a quantity of air. I'm in the AV industry and to me, volume = decibels. Sorry for the confusion.

My *understanding* is that a HFC will increase my loudness, which is something I'm attempting to limit. I love my neighbors and want the same from them. I'm not a fan of LOUD exhausts. I'm hoping the loudness boost isn't huge if in fact I can get gains out of the HFC.

So that's my setup completely. Thanks for the response.

I love my hfc. Test pipe power but no smell. Berk just released their 70mm.

I also don't think added volume from a TP or HFC will be noticeable. Probably slightly louder and deeper...barely.

It you want a little more flow without the residue on your bumper or a the smell then go with the HFC. If you live in a state with no smog logs then just got for it. Here in California HFC are not recognized they are just as illegal as test pipes!

^ I was thinking the same thing!! He must have thought KW was a form of turbo. Anyway, I love my HFC! It flows much better than stock, the only sound change is it makes the exhaust a little deeper and a little louder in the higher RPMs. I wish mine was 70mm to match my exhaust, but when I bought mine the only HFC I knew of was Berks 63mm unit. 70mm would be better. I didn't want the smell of the test pipe. I wouldn't mind the sound of a test pipe, but the smell is what kills it for me. I have several friends running test pipes and they stink!

I have the asura hfc and 3 inch exhaust and for the money the quality cannot be beat. The hfc did increase the loudness somewhat but the agressive snarl at 7k rpm was worth it. I have had no cel with the hfc from asura. I think those issues have been resolved. Build quality is excellent plus you have an extra bung for a/f guage which is a plus for me.

Never a CEL with Berk's HFC on my '06 as many or most have reported using a TP. The absence of the aggrevation alone was worth the price paid over a TP.
