Default Hks removed resonator now raspy :( help

Hey guys i was getting a very subtle rattling on my hks exhaust so i took it to an exhaust shop. It seems the hks duals get this notorious rattle from inside the resonator. So i figured that was the case as well. So basically chopped out the resonator and welded in a straight pipe.

So here i am thinking its gonna sound great replaced now and no more rattle. Well heres the thing i cant tell any longer if there is a rattle because the car is significantly louder. Louder is what i wanted but its so raspy like b series straight pipe raspy. It sounds like shit basically.

Now i had this paired up with a 63mm test pipe so i decided i would throw my berk hfc and should solve raspiness. Wrong.

It seems to have fixed it slightly in low rpm but same thing anove 4k rpm.

This is my second s2000 and on my first one i had an hks exhaust with test pipe but has the helmholtz resonator removed (thecylindrical one between the y pipe) and it sounded amazing.

Anyone else removed the box type resonator? Does it sound raspy? Maybe my mufflers are cooked because i dont think it should sound like that.

Basically debating whether to pay to put resonator back in and cut out the helmholtz or just buy a new invidia q300.

that's the function of the resonator, to clean up the sound. Mufflers suppress the sound, while resonators generally clean it up. I would weld in a different resonator and you should be good.

Hey Ren,

Looks like you finally got around to doing the resonator removal. How bad does it sound? I wanna hear it in person next time I'm in your area. My 76ta-r is super raspy, since it has no resonator, just a muffler. But, I kinda like it. Have you heard it from the outside yet?

Ya its like that now but im trying to fix it asap. I dont know if tinny and raspy fall in the same category. Im kind of thinking it may be the muffler. But ya if you are in town this weekend stop by.

Not sure what you were expecting. The resonator is there for a reason and makes a big difference in the sound. It would have been better for you to replace it with a new resonator.

I just had the UK mod done 32mm, and not quite happy with it... then I realized the previous owner welded a straight pipe in replace of the resonator!
I assume I can go back to my local exhaust shop and get a new resonator welded in, is there a preference of what resonator to get closest to stock?

Get a Vibrant Ultra-Quiet Resonator and have it welded where you put the straight pipe. No drone, no rasp, sounds great.

reporting back, got a new resonator welded in place of the straight pipe today. I now understand why people say the UK mod is a nice touch, sounds much much better.
