Default How important is a tune...

I've been tossing around the idea of picking up a Toda, J's or ASM header and was curious about how soon you should get a tune after install.

Currently, I have the E-auto "Mugen" intake, Invidia 60mm test pipe and ASM 60mm single. Even with running just a 60mm exhaust system, should I worry about running lean enough to do some damage with an aftermarket header installed?

Reason I'm asking, is cause the only real options I have for tuning(MY06) are not cheap. Any input would be awesome!

It's not really all that important. I'm running the stock intake at the moment. However, I also have an RMF Race Header, 60mm Test Pipe, and a 5Zigen CBE. On my most recent trip to the Dyno, my AFR's were steady in the 12.5 range. If anything I wouldn't worry about running lean.

Thanks for the reply.

What is a safe A/F ratio? I know that you make more power on the leaner side, but I definitely don't want it to be too low. I'm also concerned about my car being an 06(with their more sensitive emission system and all).

In my eyes, a safe A/F is anything above 11.5 and below 13.2-13.5.

If you get your car tuned in the future, try for a 13.2 or around there. I've seen cars make power at 13.5, but that is too lean in my opinion.

Ah, ok. I must of had it backwards. So, the higher the number, the leaner it is?

i have all the basic bolt ons.. header/ intake/ throttle body/ test pipe/ catback 70mm .. Just recently installed AEM EMS and the car feels ALOT better .. there are disadvantages.. it was expensive .. the engine temp gauge no longer works .. the car takes longer for the engine to start .. and when cold the car has just stalled on me at idle..

there is alot of give and take.. i gained hp but have to live with all that other crap.. If you want to know if its ok to have all those bolt ons you have and not do damage to your engine .. the answer would be no you dont have to tune you are not hurting your engine but you are not getting every ounce of performance you paid for in those parts

Or you can get an APEXi NEO and get it tuned. I'm not sure if an '06 has plug and play harnesses though. I just got 11hp more and 7flbs in like 30 mins of tuning.

There are a few drawbacks to using the AEM EMS as you have listed. They aren't really bad, as much as they are inconvenient.

I think the best Engine Management for an N/A car would have to be the Ultimate E-Manage. That is, unless you are using ITB's.
