I'm Tyler I'm 20 years old pretty new to the S2000 scene and forums. I just purchased a 2002 suzuka Blue colored one 4 days ago. My instrument cluster lights do not work. During the day I can barely see My speed/Rpm and cant see how much fuel I have left. At night when I turn my headlights on Everything in front of me is black except the green glow from the turn signals. I just want to make sure these are the right parts. I assume these are the right bulbs to replace since its labeled as "s2000 instrument panel bulbs." Also I haven't seen or found anything online on how to install them. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Are any of them functioning? It's a pretty tough sell to believe all of the bulbs in your cluster have failed....Even going on 20 years old with many miles the backlight bulbs for the cluster have not burnt out.
Provide more specific info if any of the backlights are illuminating beyond your blinkers and we'll go from there.
Step one. Press the + button the dash to increase the brightness. That may be your whole problem!
If not, yes, those are the bulbs. But you should consider converting to led bulbs. They should last almost forever. So you won't have to do this job again.
Of note, those are all the 'short' versions of these bulbs. There are also so longer ones. Also some of them have colored 'condom' covers that make them glow green, or amber, or what have you. You can pull these off and place them on the new bulbs.
Be super careful about what color went where. Don't want to mix things up.
If you go led, you'll need to buy led in the correct color for each position. The color condoms won't fit led.
To get to these bulbs involves removing the dash. Intimidating the first time. But subsequently not so bad.
There are dash removal diy's you'll want to find. Basically it involves:
Removing some plastic covers under steering column.
Removing steering column fasteners so you can lower it.
Remove two screw cover plugs under the main dash overhang, then remove the bolts underneath.
Carefully prying the dash out, all the while panicking over the creaks and cracks thinking you're gonna break something.
Trying to fit your hands behind the tiny opening behind the dash so you can blindly unplug a bunch of connectors from the back.
Carefully maneuver the dash assembly out of tbe car, trying not to scratch things up.
Figuring out how to remove the covers off the back to get at all the bulbs. A combo of removing screws then simultaneously undoing several plastic tabs together with like hald a dozen small screwdrivers.
Remove bulbs. Replace. Put it all back together.
Consider doing all the bulbs, led or incandescent. If some are old and blown, others soon to follow.
So that is dash itself plus bulbs for both side pods, radio aux controls and Start button, heat AC controls, etc.
The backlight bulbs I don't think are burnt out. During the day the illumination is very very faint. So much that I don't even bother to look down and see how fast im going because I wont be able to see it anyways. Then again at night time Nothing lights up except the green turn signal lights.
Lol, it sounds like none of the interior illumination is working... do you have parking lights outside the car? And eh when you say turn signals glowing green, are they always glowing continuously or only when you, ya know, flip a signal?
