Default J's Racing Tsuchinoko Intake, SPL Header, T1R 70mm

I recently bought an '05 S with the following power mods:

- J's Racing Tsuchinoko Intake
- J's Racing SPL Header
- T1R 70R-EM Stainless Steel Exhaust

The car still has the oem cat installed. It has not been tuned. Do you guys think the car is running lean with these mods and no tune?

I plan on putting a test pipe on and getting it tuned. What do you guys recommend I go with on the tuning device?

Thanks

Any 70mm TP will do, as for tuning - a VAFC or E-Manage.

I wouldn't think those mods would create enough differences that the factory ECM couldn't adjust to.

Keep in mind that any gains on the VAFC will be null over time as the ECM adjusts for optimum conditions. YOu will keep on having to reset the cars computer for the VAFC settings to take full effect again. I would say if your going to try to squeeze everything out of your supporting mods I would get the E-Manage ultimate.

Isn't this true only if you tune the VAFC to function before WOT? While in WOT, the ECU cannot compensate/adjust. I was just thinking of tuning for WOT to avoid the ECU from changing constantly.

I have read that an Aftermarket header is the most responsible part for causing the car to run lean, dangerously lean? Not sure.

ECU can only compensate so much, then you will get detonation.

Best thing to do is get 3 pulls on a dyno and see what AF you've got going on. Cheap long term insurance.

I haven't read people adding fuel via VAFC, I don't think you can. And you only want to tune past the 80% throttle barrier (WOT).

Can anyone recommend any good tuners close to me? I'm located in Nashville, TN but I don't mind driving a ways for a good tune. Btw I'll probably be getting an emanage.

When in WOT (open loop), the ECU goes off the pre-programmed maps, it does not read any of the sensors and does not make any adjustments, however when you are in closed loop mode, the ECU will make constant adjustments to keep AFR in check, so that is why tuning closed loop with a VAFC is useless.

I'd say your running a bit leaner, but not enough to worry over.

You'll be running a lot leaner when you add the TP.
