JE Pistons

Default JE Pistons

Just to give u a quick run down, i've been trying to rebuild my engine for some time now due to a valve drop . The first build involved a setup including Darton sleeves and TODA pistons (12.3:1). However after a few weeks of driving, the engine began to knock.

Turns out the builder didnt do his homework and the sleeve material wasnt compatible with the TODA Piston. His insurance company have deemed him responsible and he must now rebuild my engine.

He wants to use JE pistons as its one of the only two brands (other is CP pistons) that are compatible with the sleeves. He said JE can build a piston to match the specs of the TODA piston.

I've heard of JE as a brand but never heard any feedback regarding the actual product. How does the piston compare to the Japanese brands in terms of quality, reliability and performance?

When I begin to discuss the use of other products,seems the builder trys to steer me back to Darton and JE. Now I'll have the final say in what parts are going to go in my engine, but i know its gonna be a hassel with the insurance company and the builder. Letters will have to be written, they'll be endless phone calls and ive only had the car working for 3 weeks since NOVEMBER 2006. I've kinda had it!

If JE are a decent brand i'll just cut my losses and give him the go ahead. I'm pretty sick of the whole situation and it would be nice to finally have it over and done with.

SO is JE worth settling for???

JE Pistons are very good. I've had many friends build their motors with those pistons, and the results were always good.

The others you mentioned, CP, are also very good.

You can't really go wrong with either one. I wish you the best of luck on your build, and I hope everything goes smoothly this time around.

I'm using JE custom 9.8:1 pistons and Darton sleeves in my build... I will be running 12 PSI on my Comtech Supercharger.

From all I have heard JE makes a great piston... Hell, they are used by many NASCAR teams... So, I would assume they put out a good product.

Theres alot of honda ppl running CPs. Many have excellent results. I think CP pistons cost more to last time i checked. I currently run CPs in my integra. No piston slap, or knocking. I would get CPs

You can't go wrong with either JE or CP. You can pretty much flip a coin and go with either. I personally had CP's in my GSR and they were great.

The feedback seems reassuring for turbo applications. Any thoughts on high comp. NA engines??

As for the sleeving, I thought there were a lota problems with sleeving our motors?

There should be no difference as far as builds go. The highest Compression piston carried by JE is 11.5:1 with .040.

If you want something higher, you can use the J's Racing piston set, which will give you 11.7:1.

I'm sure you can mill the head to raise the compression on the JE's as well as the J's Racing pistons.

We use JE in our VW dragster, and few other cars I work on. All are NA with compression ratios above 15:1. I would actually pick JE or CP over most of the Japanese brands.
